Al qaeda are an anti globalisation movement. Discuss. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the above statement? |

But being anti western globalisation IS being anti globalisation surely?
Nearly all globalisation could be associated with western (or more specifically American) Imperialism. |

But peoples meaning of globalisation is always gonna be different.
i think this is the definition i agree with most: "GLOBALISATION CAN THUS BE DEFINED AS THE INTENSIFICATION OF WORLDWIDE SOCIAL RELATIONS WHICH LINK DISTANT LOCALTIES IN SUCH A WAY THAT LOCAL HAPPENINGS ARE SHAPED BY EVENTS OCCURRING MANY MILES AWAY AND VICE VERSA." |

they are anti-western dominated globalisation: they dont want an America/american corporation dominated world
they are pro-globalisation: they want a worldwide Islamic totalitarian theocracy under Islamic law most of the "anti-globalisation" demonstrators arent against globalisation per-se just the way it is happenning and the exploitation that is happenning along with it and the dominance of the multinationals. |

aye, tricky one. i`d have to disagree tho.
i think they are probably against a lot of causes that i am. in that i do not want to see a world further dominated by multinationals and american corporations. but there are certain ways to go about prompting change and they are never gonna succeed with warmongering tactics. i do still think that globalisation is one of the biggest threats to modern civilization right now. |

Why? Seriously, I don't see how globalisation is wrong in itself, and I'm kinda interested in what others think. |

Because it is resulting in identikit cities, what is there on Dundee high street that you wont see in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, New York?
Do a google search on Wal Mart and try adn find some sites with opposing views for the most stark example of the negative effects. |

what he said
globalization is argued to be beneficial to the greater cause, but in harsh reality the only winners are the corporations getting more buisness, tearing up third world countries to build factories and exploit cheap labour. the rich get richer, the workers are as good as slaves and the poor are left with even less. and for what? so you can buy a pair of nikes anywhere in the world as they would wish? and it is gonna happen as mankind is FAR too stupid to be able to choose for himself |
