While I don't agree with the actions of the paper (i think more can be achieved by trying to get american voters here to vote against Bush), I think some of the responses show how ignorant some Americans still are about the world and indeed history.

A shame really, but I imagine all the Daily Mail readers over hear would react in exactally the same way if someone told us not to vote Tory or BNP

Yes, I do remember the war of 1812. When you invaded a country who posed no threat to you (Canada) for no apparent reason. Hmmmm........something tells me I witnessed the war of 1812.....

In fact, you could say that without the French, America would be ruled Great Britain. The French saved your asses more than once.

also comedy "youd all be speaking German" erm no, when Germany invaded countries in WW2 they didnt force them to speak German, they allowed them to continue speaking in their own tongue.

And besides, whats lost on most Americans is that they would be speaking German if it wasnt for a vote that only just went to "English" as th primary language of the good old USA.

I'm not so sure if it was a good idea but some of the responses we a little off. Just as I'd managed to stop thinking of Americans as lacking intelligence (generally speaking) and being too full of America and themselves the stereotype is yet again proved. Although some people answered with some dignity and well worded answers.
