Conversely, does anyone know of any good letting agencies, or does such a thing not exist?

to bring this up again, is anyone here who has raised their concern over the company willing to write a statement about their experiences with J&E Shepherd that could be used in an official complain we are making to various bodies? You can remain anonymous if you wish, and it would be a massive help to demonstrate that this is not a one off and that the company is in fact notorious for its dismissive and unprofessional treatment of clients. Any help would be incredibly useful and very much appreciated. Even a little paragraph would be great.

but surely if it was done anonymously any tom, dick or harry could say they've had bad experiences with j&e shepherd even if they'd never let a flat from the company

If you guys have so many complaints, you should totally do something. Nico, you're doing the right thing. I've had similar problems with various people in the past, but I didn't know anyone else who had the same problems, so it's good it wasn't a one-off with you guys. If they are technically an estate agents, then I suggest getting in touch with the Estate Agents Ombudsman.

To try to bring hope to all of you who find the renting game depressing have no fear I.B Murray & Son are here. They take really good care of their tenants, to be honest we were total wankers when we moved in but they handled everything very fairly. they repair things asap and are very polite.
I've seen 4 of their flats and they have all been in very clean and well decorated.

Reasonable, fair and don't decorate like it's 1979. awwww bless them.

i am with shepherd's but have only had the place for just over a month. no problems really to report but they havent picked up furniture which they said they would do in a week and that was reported when we first moved in.

I have heard a story from a friend who knew someone who had a flat with shepherd and when thay came home from work one day there was a letting agent and a client in their house showing them around even though the person had no intention of moving. All these bad reports are quite worrying though, especially when i live in a shepherd flat!!!

I'm currently looking for a flat in Dundee, and after reading this thread i'm dead disheartened!
It's not just on this website I've heard bad things of Shepperds... It's a fucking travesty that they own such a monopoly on the market. I suppose it's basically because they are cheap, making them the only option for a lot of students.

I'm with Blackadders right now, and I have to say, they've been great for me.

Who is anyone/everyone on here letting from? Are they any good?

I'm with Sydhar (their office is just up past satchmos). The company is run by 2 old guys, both really friendly and approachable. Our shower broke a week after we moved in and 2 days later we had a brand new one installed.

After being with Shepherds for over a year the overall service has been OK. Our last flat was flooded and in the beginning it felt like they were doing nothing about it but a month later they have rehoused us to a flat 10 times better than our last place for the same price per month. We wont be moving back to our old place as they haven't even began clearing out the mess but this wasn't down to Shepherds it was the person who owns the flat. They have a bad reputation but this is down to the amount of flats they have. At the moment we couldn't be happier with our new flat but no doubt in 6months time I'll be bitching about them again.

was that me who told you? that happened to a girl I used to work with.

I was with them for four/five years and they were ok except when someone broke into our flat and fooked up the door so it didnt close at all. They refused to pay for it and said that it was my contents insurance that should pay for it, however my insurance company stated that it was thhe flat owners building insurance that should cover it. Shepherd's refused to send anyone out (yes we were safe enough to spend the night in a house with no door). We just got a joiner and he billed Shepherds and we never heard anymore about it.
