BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (AP) -- A woman angry with her 12-year-old daughter for having sex forced the girl to drink bleach and sat on her until the child died, a police detective said.

The girl's 9-year-old brother was forced to watch the attack, Detective Warren Cotton testified Thursday in a preliminary hearing for Tunisia Archie, 31.

Archie is charged with capital murder in the asphyxiation death of her daughter Jasmine. If convicted, she could be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.

Cotton said Archie, who has been jailed without bond since shortly after her daughter's Nov. 26 death, told authorities she was disturbed because "her daughter told her that she was no longer a virgin."

She said she poured bleach into Jasmine's mouth and the child vomited, he said, then sat on her until she stopped breathing, Cotton testified.

Archie forced Jasmine's 9-year-old brother Jacorey to watch the attack and "told him that if he shed a tear that she was going to kill him, too," Cotton testified.

I hope she does get the death penalty. Just because the girl lost her virginity when she was young doesn't mean you do that. It's gross. It reminds me of the couple who were planning on adopting this 4 year old kid (I think he was 4) and fed him 40 teaspoons of salt and left him (he was found but he died in intensive care). It's horrible to think of people who do this sort of stuff, and they really deserve one hell of a bad punishment.

yes. i generally believe that criminals should be given the chance to reform, get a life back etc... but these kinds of cases make me so angry that i just think they should be locked up for life. that might actually be kinda irrational though.

That's disgusting. How anyone would be able to harm their own children I can never understand.
But I hope she doesn't get the death penalty.
She should be left in prison with all those mothers that love their children so much, but can't see them.
And see how they feel about what she done.
I think the death penalty is an easy way out for most murderers, the ones who feel regret and remorse for what they have done have to live with that every single day.

I agree with you, I also think that no other person has the right to decide if someone lives or die's, Besides That It aint enough of a punishment.

To be fair, if she got the death penalty, she'd probably be on death row for about 10 years. Can you imagine living in prison for ten years, knowing you're going to be executed?

Yeah, I was just countering the point of view that the death penalty is the easy way out for murderers. I can't imagine what it must be like to live on death row.

Yeah I always just think of them being executed almost as soon as they have received judgement.I still think the other mothers in prison should still get a good hour or so with her though.
