House of Commons

was watching highlights on the BBC news channel on cable and i cant believe how informal it is. The damn torries kept interrupting Jack Straw and it was funny to see how he handled it, but i thought it was going to be boring but i actually found it pretty interesting seeing how the whole thing works in Parliament.

khay is an unknown quantity at this point
the reason for the red carpet being in the middle of the floor seperating them is because it is the length of a sword distance. So if they where to draw there swords in the olden days it would just fall short. This could not be true as it could of been my history teacher winding us up But i think it is true. He told us over a year ago.

na, thats the purpose of the table between the prime minister and the opposition leader, its wide with all the book stacked between them so that they cant lunge at each other with swords. When you think about it hows a carpet gonna stop them

to me the commons parliament is just an example of how things should NOT be done...

its informal, and by creating 2 opposing sides with the table inbetween, a competitive atmosphere is created, which modern politics doesnt need...

i noticed a lot of heckling going on too. People interrupting Jack Straw and then others shouting back in his defence tell them to be quiet. I watched it before and it was perfect, they were taking their turns in speaking like they are supposed to, but today its almost a free for all with people refusing to adhere to the rules of the house of commons. Even the speaker can't control it. The woman who did it before did a good job right until the day she retired.
