I have to say, as it currently stands, none of the parties have a set of coherent policies that concur with my views on the state of the nation. so it's going to have to be non- vote for me probably. Sadly.

Nykoma Garry, Liberal Dem and Clive Sneddon, Liberal Dem
1. Our aim is to contribute to forming a Liberal Democrat government. If there is no party with an overall majority, the most likely outcome is a minority administration formed by the largest party in Parliament, but we would work with anyone to implement Liberal Democrat policies. 2. As long as PFI or PPP remains the only game in town, we would use these schemes as means of getting projects Dundee needs. But we would want local councils given the flexibility to choose other possible ways of financing long term projects. 3. We want as a party a rational debate on the whole issue of drugs use, including nicotine and alcohol as well as the abuse of prescription drugs or solvents. If prohibition as a policy is found to have caused more problems than it solves then that would imply decriminalisation and better facilities for those who wish to overcome their addiction. 4. Broadly we favour the return of Dundee to its previous boundaries, but acceptance of this is linked with reform of local government finance, so as to ensure that those who live outwith the city but use its facilities can also contribute to its costs, which topic needs a proper study. Possible models would include the American use of sales tax, but given that VAT already exists, it would also be possible for local authorities to determine part of the VAT rate, which could allow a reduction in central government subsidy to local authorities and would thus be fiscally neutral. Our sole aim in this election is the abolition of Council Tax and its replacement by Local Income Tax, so that people are taxed fairly on the basis of what they can pay. 5. The precautionary principle means TETRA masts should be refusable by planners until such time as we know more about their effects on young people. 6. We have abolished student fees for Scottish students studying in Scotland and will not introduce top-up fees in Scotland. We want to spread the Scottish position to the rest of the UK. Graduate tax funds maintenance grants for students who need them to go to University at all. 7. The minimum wage for 16-17 year olds should be closer to the 18 year old figure, and should be vigorously policed. We want to promote the formation of small businesses, as well as secure more jobs from the dispersal of government offices out of Edinburgh and London. 8. Charles Kennedy says there is no limit to our ambitions, and this is right in that we are starting this campaign 8% higher in the polls than at the same point in 2001. But the outcome is up to you! 9. We support 16 as the age for voting, and want to restore people's trust in politicians as people who say what they mean and do what they say. We know many young people want to change society and hope they will feel able to use the ballot box. That is one reason we pursue a positive campaign as we believe that many young people are disillusioned with politicans simply attacking each others' policies. 10. We favour good scientific research but oppose vivisection as unnecessarily cruel. DNA evidence more often eliminates the innocent than condemns the guilty, but this is still valuable evidence. Choosing the sex of babies could be socially undesirable and is likely to remain an issue of conscience. 11. The Iraq war is illegal for lack of UN consent, and we should now be working towards the UN deadline of handing over to Iraqis and withdrawing occupation troops by the end of 2005. No war should be launched against Iran or Syria or any other country without UN approval, which will not be forthcoming on the situation as it stands at present. 12. We can ask for regular reports to Parliament on how the pledged aid has been spent, and thus apply public pressure to prevent any backsliding. 13. We think the legislation recently approved by the Scottish Parliament should go a long way to enabling action against rogue landlords. In the first instance the CAB should be able to advise anyone who needs a particular problem sorting. 14. We would add our policies to improve childcare and give a wider range of learning opportunities in and after school, also our determination to create a citizen's pension, beginning with an extra £25 a week for those over 75, and an extra £33 for couples over 75, and money for improved arrangements for discharging people from hospital and for earlier diagnosis so that prompt help can be given. |

I feel that this country is building a wishy- washy dependancy culture where no one is held responsible for their actions, (referring to dole- sucking drug dealing, house breaking scum who constantly reoffend but are not punished effectively or forcibly). This needs to be tackled with a reformation of the justice and education systems. The British (particularly Scottish) mindset whereby being clever, skilled, intelligent or funny matter not a jot in comparison to being tough or hard matters needs to be broken at it's fundamental core. It's all tied to the thoughtless upper- middle class leftism prevalent in this country in the past 5/10 years. What also annoys me is the ridiculous levels that P.C over- compensation has reached, whereby anyone who is not a working, white, middle or working class male can do anything they want and have an excuse for it, and be totally untouchable. it's outrageous. But the most fundamental problem is with crime and the justice system. If the Government took a harder stance on crime, unemployment and benefits, then the benefits would be exponentially greater than the amount of people that had been moved from unemployment to employment, as not only would those now working be contributing to N.I and income tax, they would also not be draining the economy through benefits, meaning more money would be available for public spending and community investment. I don't think I'm treading on anyone's toes in anything i'm saying here, it's just sensible and coherent, and more importantly, it's what so many others I have spoken to are thinking. There isn't a party there though, that provides an appropriate manifesto. Labour want to appease and "rehabilitate" criminals. The Socialists are the antithesis of almost everything that is good. The fact that the SSP recently took a vote to support the Iraqi Liberation Front/ Army surely is a display of how backwards these people's thinking really is. Conservatives are still deeply trying to pander to the upper class vote, and want to kill little fox faces. BNP still have racist undertones, which despite their best efforts, they will be sometime ridding themselves off, particularly in the current media/ political climate. Liberal Democrats= pap. SNP- The true racists party, except against the English, so that doesn't count eh?idiots. Och i'm tired typing. I could talk till I'm blue in the face and have done so many times, but it's not doing anyone any good whatsoever. |
