I agree with the main man bHd, he seems to know his shit. This theory of a donut-shaped timeline would greatly support the possibility of time travel. If we are in a loop, then like running your finger round a hula-hoop, we can choose to go back or forward in time, eventually if going to far in any one direction, returning to the point we left.
This I like muchly, since I'm a great believer in destiny in that no matter what choices you make in life, this universe already knows what you will be, it's up to you to discover it. All this shit supports people like fortune tellers, as in how would you foretell the future if every minute of your life is the end of the timeline. It must already exist into the future, just very few people can read it... and if it goes into the future, how far does it go? I agree with bHd, we're definitely on a loop. I hope this thread lasts for a few hundred billion years, that way I can say hi to the next me. Hi me! |

i once saw a documentary on something called m thoery, i cant really remember it but basically it said that it was proven that the world as we know it has 3 dimensions but there are actually 7 more that our minds cant understand, and our universe is contained in some sort of bubble and there are millions of other such bubbles with alternate realitys unnaffected by each others space and time. apparently pretty soon scientists are going to "grow" a universe in a lab that will grow independently of ours and have different laws of space and time. i got pretty confused and its hard trying to explain it when im tired but you should read up on it.
also in our universe there are infinate millions of galaxys, and if we could travel at the speed of light it would take thousands of years to get across our own, i find it pretty hard to beleive that we are alone in space. theres probably a guy on another planet somewhere right now making this same point but a lot more more coherent than mine. |

if you set two digital clocks to the same time and put one in space for a year it comes back slightly out of sinc with the other.
that means that time travel is possible in thoery, and if you can go forward in time then fate must be real, so sit back and relax, bacause its all planned out for you! |

quickly googled for links and couldnt see any that were in very easy explainable way, basically if you get two twins. One stays on Earth and the other travels away on a spaceship at close to lightspeed(3*10^8m/s), say 20 years pass on Earth, spaceship returns, the twin on Earth has aged 20years while the twin who was away may have only aged by a year or whatever. A look on Amazon shows what looks like a good book for beginners on relativity anyone interested should check out a library, this one looks like its pretty joe average language too. And to add to when someone mentioned about 7dimension, check out superstring quantum physics. These guys are theorising that there are 17 or 23 dimensions. Is totally fascinating. They do calculations like duel algebra i.e. 4X + 8Y +7Z = 5 3X - 7Y - 6Z = -10 but with 17 or 23 unknowns, pages and pages of the stuff, bloody mental. p.s. for newsgroups check alt.sci.time-travel is quite good |

but surely even though there could easily be other life somewhere in the universe, doesnt mean there's UFOs, who says they'd have the technology to get here, there may be a planet billions of lightyears away with a bunch of cows an apes on it! doesnt prove UFOs are real. what with satellite an radar technology, surely there'd be some evidence that UFOs were real!

because compared to other more advanced intelligent life forms, our sattelites are no useful than a hamsters wheel. We couldnt detect their planes as we cant comprehend anything other than our own technology. For all we know, they could have star trek like transporters or invisible devices!

something i think people these days take for granted when they get philisophical and scientific about the universe, is the fact that we are all alive today...
if we were too far from the sun - there would be no life on earth if we were too close to the sun - there would be no life on earth we just happened to be in the right place at the right time for life to start and continue evolving the way it did it seem kinda silly how people are wondering whether we are alone in this universe - when theres 7 billion people (and growing) on this planet alone that we dont know |

I know I am - everyone on this knows I am... who said I wasnt?
I am merely pointing out that my bands have been playing all over scotland for 6 years now... we've played dundee numerous times over and the majority of people we've stayed in contact for any length of time are from there - and some of the nicest people we know |
