this doesn't really interest me much, but some of you guys might be. He defeated David Davis in the last ballot to decide the new leader of the Conservative party, but would you vote for him, or even David Davis for that matter?
Personally i don't think the Tory party will ever be as strong as they used to be just by changing leader, they still have alot of original party members that need to be removed if its going to have any effect, because after all you can only guide your party if there is unity between all members and i dont think there is.

It'll be good for the Tories to have the young, charismatic Cameron up against the old fuddy-duddy Gordon Brown, but the Tories need some new policies being as Labour nicked all theirs. They've got a modern and interesting leader, hopefully it'll spread through the rest of the party, as most of their ideals and beliefs are pretty outdated.

This was an essential move for the Tories. In the choice between cameron and davis, davis has too much of a link to thatcherism. Or at least perceived link to thatcherism, cameron was after all hovering around when the economy went down the shitter.
obviously it doesnt increase my chances of voting for them but it will swing a few people back from labour to them I reckon. |

Cameron was definately the right way to go for the Tories, with a youthful attitude and, as Alan G said, no links to Thatcherism. It might help bring the Tories towards the centre, which could win them the next election *runs to the bookies to put Tory election victory on at favourable odds*

The party does desperatly need a charismatic leader. Mebee Cameron will be that. Despite everyones mututal loathing of the Thatcher legacy and the absolutly nothing that was John Major, Cameron is a new voice. I'll still vote lib dems coz im one of those fiends that just sit on the bench and watch everyone else squabble...but things could get interesting come the next election. In a less serious matter, i think David Cameron should be just like Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars.

The contrast between Cameron and Blair yesterday was pretty stark. Cameron is still largely an unknown commodity so he might still fuck it up, but there defintely feels like there's a shift going on. It's quite worrying.
As a sidenote, unless the Lib Dems change leader and change tact I predict they will lose ground. So much focus is going to be on Cameron versus Brown that they run the risk of being sidelined unless they do something about it. The next election is going to be one heck of a battle that's for sure. |
