Immigrants raped, beaten and imprisoned to act as prostitutes against their will, found in Dundee
http://news.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=641842006 Fucking sick. If anyone visits them then imo they are just as guilty and sick as the brothel owners themselves, it's basically rape |

One of the worst aspects of this "industry" is that very often the girls don't want to or can't go home because of the stigma now attached to them. Their own families sometimes reject them because it it felt that they have brought disgrace upon the family name/village/town.
Daily Mail readers want these people ejected from the country but in many cases the same traffickers will be waiting for them back home, and they will get trafficked again - usually to a country where they don't speak the language. The UK is a prime destination country for the sex-slave industry. It's mostly Eastern-European girls, though not exclusively girls. There's a whole world of slave-labour going on right on our doorsteps. In the prostitution-style cases, criminalising the customer must be the way forward here.

That's the problem, though - the law regards the girls caught up in this essentially as prosecution tools. I mean, take the case of the girls found and 'rescued' in Birmingham a few months ago; it was all very positive nice-nicey pictures of saved girls hugging heroic cops and all the rest of it, but the fact of the matter is that since then several of them have been deported for being over here illegally. Not treating them as victims and basically helping them is not only in breach of some aspects of international law, it's just plain wrong.

There are cases like this of women being kidnapped in an eastern european country. They are raped and beaten and transported against their will to the UK. They are then forced into prostitution. If they escape and are found by immigration they are forcibly deported to the country they were kidnapped from. Back there they can be shunned by their family and/or kidnapped again by the same gang. And it happens again. There are women who have been deported 4 times and kidnapped/raped/beaten etc again and again.

These poor poor people. They need help, not re-victimization.
I was reading some of the related articles from that link and this was what I could gather. It would be ideal if we could provide homes and professional help if they want it, but looking at the numbers I don't know how feasible that is. Another way of helping to prevent this treatment is to tighten up the laws for brothels, lap dancing clubs etc etc, ensuring things like proof of age, taking away private booths for lap dancing or installing CCTV and enforcing a distance between dancer and client. In some places, the women have to perform in toilets. This is way better then how the immigrants are being treated in many places, but it doesn't go far enough. There is no way to prevent the sex industry, it will happen anyway, so the workers should have more rights, better working conditions and abuse in the way it's happening should be clamped down on in a big way. The people who run this sick trade in people seem to be getting away with it. Peter Stringfellow said that he would not open up premises in Scotland if laws such as proof of age and better working conditions are brought in. Says it all really. |

i watched a preview of an up-coming television series / film or something about a topic very close to this. I didn't see it all though but i think it's coming very soon. Anyone else managed to catch this trailer that is on TV at the moment?
I'm sure it has Robert Carlisle in it as a human sex trafficer.

Aye it is called Human Trafficking and it's on Sky One Sunday nights at 10pm. The first part was last week, I watched it and it's really well done, shocking and informative. It really is worth picking up the series even if you missed the first one, I dunno but maybe they will have a re-cap at the start of each part seeing there's a week between each one. I saw that they repeat it during the week but sorry I don't have any more info than that.

Cheers peeps. I'll need to watch it. I have not seen a trailer for it since the first time so it's good to know where to find it.

I've been impressed with the mini-series on sky one, it's a lot more hard hitting than the average hollywood film that touches on the subject - no mean feat for tv. If you get a chance to watch it or download via bittorrent, check it out. It's evil on a whole new level. These fuckers need to be hunted down and put down. Robert Carlyle's performance is incredibly compelling.

The series finished tonight and was one of the most impressively-done dramas I have watched. |
