Contraseptive in Methadone....

Just heard a quick headline about this but fucking hell...apparantly an MP has put an idea forward to stop Junkies taking methadone from having children by poutting contraceptives in their methadone.
Now, It's a good idea and all, stop scum breeding but theres gotta be a shitload of human rights issues here?

I suppose I can see where the mp are coming from wanting to do this but they should just tie a pack of condoms to the methadone & then they'd be preventing STI's aswell!

Anyway.. controversial, but I personally think it's a good idea.
I don't even think people on methadone should be allowed to keep their children with them. Maybe then it would perhaps give them something to work towards to making themselves completely clean.
Of course you can't just say every case is the same.

I'm unsure of your stance here.
To be fair, he's not proposing chemically induced infertility but rather suggesting a way of preventing conception while an addict remains dependent. After all, a body coarsing with toxic chemicals is not the best environment in which to bring a baby to term.

Watch the birth rate plummet. If anyone thought about it rationally, how many folk would have children? I can just about cope with pets...

It's a fundamental human right to have children. It's also an incredible responsiblility. Many, many people cannot reconcile the two. That's the problem.

i work as a social worker with children and families...a significant number of the families we work with are affected by parental substance misuse, mainly heroin. Yes its a basic human right to have children and yes not all people who use methadone will be bad parents...those stable on a script and not using heroin as well can have less chaotic lifestyles and manage to raise children in a stable environment however those who suppliment their habit and generally lead a chaotic lifestyle end up in such a mess.

Imagine this - and believe me i am not exaggerating and this is not a one off incident

you are a child, 1 or both parents use heroin and are on scripts...you are basically well aware of this, there are all sorts of people frequenting yuor home, meals etc are not consistent, generally bullied at school re clothes, personal hygiene (sp), fact parents are "junkies", home conditions are bad

you have a social worker...mum dad dislike this person, your quite scared of this person...things at home are getting worse, they tend to go up and down, school are worried and then social workers decide they need to take you out of your home...if you have no relatives that can take you you end up in foster care...you bounce from care to home to see your parents various attempts at a rehab home fail as things are too unstable if your over the age of 8 (and it is decided you cant return home and need long term care) it is unlikely you will be adopted so in foster care you remain seeing your parents once a week in the social work offices...

is that in the best interests of the child? does that respect their rights? what about their right to a stable home, decent life?

(playing devils advocate here because my opinion is that the government should not put contraceptive in methadone but instead look at how they provide treatment)

I personally think they should put lethal chemicals into methadone, and i mean really hard quick fast deaths that hurt lots

then spend the money they save on Drug Rehab hiring people to get rid of the dead bodys

a tad harsh

yes there are some people who use drugs who arent the most pleasant of people but then there are equal amounts of cunts who dont use any drugs

theres always exceptions to the rule, but i just hate them

Anyway have you heard about these places there thinking about opening up where junkies can inject off of the streets and in a clean safe enviroment?

What a crock o shit i hope they do open them up then arrest anyone who enters, or shoot them, im not fussed

you are a fuckin tit mate, some of my best mates are ex addicts. and they know many more. and most of them are as harmless and fun loveing as i am.

an arsehole is an arsehole and a junkie is a junkie. you do get people who are both.
