I really feel sorry for this girl more than anything else, when I was 12 I wasn't even thinking about boys or having sex. The sex education at my high school was very informative but there was no discussion of the actual relationships formed between girls/ boys, it was all very factual based and i think this is where the problem was rooted. My high school had the highest teenage pregnancy rate per pupil in europe (well it did between 2002-2004). I hate it how the schools are always blamed for this when really the parents should be more activley involved. If the parents are honest and not embarrassed to talk about sex to their kids then this type of scenario could be avoided. It seems that parents now think it is down to schools to tell their kids evrything they need to know and when it comes to a subject like this there isn't a substitute for a parents honesty.

Why are you feeling sorry for the girl when she thinks this is such a great thing, and i dont think her parents (well mother) is exactly the best role model, allowing her 12 year old daughter to smoke ~20 fags a day and the fact she was going out on the bevvy at 11
I think it says alot about the mother when she says that she wishes she had been pregnant at 12 because it would have been great (or something to the extent) |

serious child protection issue here methinks. yeah CHILD cos thats all this wee girl is, i reckon it would be in her best interests and those of the baby if they were taken off the mother. the mum says shes proud of her daughter for keeping it...and i'm sure she's just as proud of herself for allowing her 11 year old daughter to go out, get blind drunk and have sex thus landing her pregnant. good job mum.

right, away to rant.
its doesnt have that much todo with the parent, the second she is out the door she can and will do anything she wants. i mean, what are the parents gonna do? lock her up? cause that wont make her any better of a "person". ground her when she gets drunk? yeh in 3 months all her friends have found a way to get more booze and she can get more drunk alot more easyly, and will do it just to get back at her parents. i know it. when i was younger it was the sole ambition to go out and get pissed off a fiver. there is prob not much with the parenting. i think it has more todo with he way kids wanna be adults but at the same time have no idea why people do these kinda things. the fact that they do it and feel big about it is enuff for them. |

QUOTE] I dont know about you but at the age of 11 I wasn't getting pissed and smoking, yeah we have all been underagedid these things but it really wasnt until I was 15/16 that i started drinking without my paretns consent. If I wa drinking and smoking at the age of 11 my mum would have went ballistic and made sure i never did it again rather than allowing it to happen and formn what the article says, basically encouraging that behaviour. I do agree though that kids want to grow up too fast and feel more mature by doing things like this. It really is disgusting. |
