some people will cry racism over anything
here we go:
Row over boy's monkey role in play A mother has taken her son out of a school play after he and another black pupil were cast as monkeys. Lorraine Rees said that Ashley Down Infant School in Bristol had acted in a racist manner by asking her son to perform the role. Mrs Rees, 39, said her son Myles, seven, was upset when he was asked to play the part of a monkey in the production of An Enchanted Island. She complained to the school but said her protestations were ignored. The mother of four has now stopped her son taking part in the play. Speaking from her home in Henbury, Bristol, Mrs Rees said: "Everyone is aware of the racist connotations of asking a black pupil to play a monkey. "I think what the school have done is definitely racist and should never have been allowed to happen in the first place. It is just not acceptable. "There is no way that black pupils should even be asked to play monkeys in any type of play. "My son is very upset by all of this, he had wanted to play the part of a hunter but was told he would have to play the part of a monkey." Mrs Rees said she was furious as the school have still not apologised to her. She and her husband have now taken her complaint to Support Against Racial Incidents (SARI). Head teacher Helen Heap said an investigation into the incident would take place. Three other white students are to play monkeys in the play, which will be performed next month. © Copyright Press Association Ltd 2006, All Rights Reserved. so 3 white students are playing monkeys and 2 black were meant to. it's racism i tell you! |

No. Perhaps some black people will, but to say that all black people will, is a racist statement in itself. I'm sure you probably meant "some black people" rather than "all black people" though, so that's all I'll say about that.

I could see their point if only black kids were being selected for the role, the article isn't very clear. If this isn't the case, then the person making this complaint is a retard, pure and simple. |

i think the kid wasn't upset about being a monkey because he was black, just he wanted to be the hunter role, which is probably a main role in the play. so mum wants her kid to be the star so plays the racism card to try and get her kid changed to the bigger role. i'm looking forward to the school trying to do a production of jungle book. ![]() |

It is very frustrating how the need to be "politically correct" means you *could* end up having to show a slightly "racist" to avoid claims such as this.
I remember getting in a fight with someone at school and got in huge trouble over racism. I only got in a fight with him cos he tried to nick my ball while me and my mates were playing. |

Oh yeah and providing she actually believes what she's saying (as mentioned it could well be a ridiculous stunt to get a better role) then the women seems to be the only one attached to racial "stereotypes". (Stereotypes aint the word i'm looking for)

I was just watching TV and it said on The Wright Stuff (gospel btw
) that the only two black kids in the year were cast as the monkeys.Someone at the school obviously never thought it out properly. Would look a bit suspect, not that I am saying it's racist. Maybe they were both just crap actors so got crap parts. |
