NK test launches missile

I'm hearing that North Korea just test launched their missile in the face of global pressure against such a move. Anyone got any more info on this?

Yeah, this has become the major news story of the day, turns out they fired 5 or more and one of them was the long distance one that can reach the US.

Hope it doesn't escalate too much.

why shouldn't they have missiles? The west is going nuts about it, forgetting that they have big fuck off missiles too.
If our 'western' countries stopped invading other countries and killing their civillians, countries like North Korea might not feel the need to arm themselves is this way.
It so hypocritical.

I think the fact that they're a dictatorship is reason enough, not to mention their hilarious habit of launching test missiles in the direction of Japan, with no provocation.

I don't see how it's any more hypocritical, than being opposed to brutally oppressive regimes, while at the same time, arguing that they should have the right to own nuclear weapons, and the means to deliver them.

Too be honest I agree with that Dashingmajor fellow to an extent. As I just said in another post, people/countries are more or less entitled to do what they wish, no matter what the EU, America or Japan says. Their government in our eyes may not be the greatest thing on earth (to any extent) but really about a few centuries (maybe more) we were in the same boat, politically, and probably culturally. Just because they haven't reached our supposed level of great civility, they are criminalised for their actions.

I can't take it anymore how folk think their dead on about a subject, just because in the lovely Western world that we are actually lucky as hell to live in, in most respects, are like a million times more advanced in so many different areas than other countries.

It may be dangerous, it may be threatening, it may be ridiculously stupid, but there is no need to get on a high horse because you're lucky enough to live in a stable (I use that term loosely) society.

Full stop problem with globalisation! Every country with a little capital feels the need to get involved with other countries that they have little or nothing to do with. And if anyone feels the need to counter me on this, think about this, why the hell do you think countries like that feel the need to arm themselves to such an extent, because as far as we are all concerned they are nothing but a little shit hole that doesn't trade with us (much), yet many Western countries feel the need to involve themselves in their affairs because it's the right thing to do. As I may have said before, until shit like this comes up, we couldn't give a flying 'toot' about them.

I am in no way condoning discussion on such topics, I welcome it with open arms, and hope that more people get involved in such serious issues, but I swear I've heard far too many people claim that shit like this is 'wrong', when they sit back and back up shite that our own countries carry out that are ultimately more terrible.

I hope this makes sense, I'm a bit pissed and think this makes perfect sense atthe moment, feel free to question me to any extent, I'm happy to explore the subject further.

so you'd be A-OK with north korea owning nukes that could reach the UK? just because they're their own country and should be left to do what they want?

My point was hardly about the subject of them owning nuclear weapons (if it's even that, I was under the impression it was just long range missiles), it was more to do with the social aspects of the subject. Do you think North Korean children hide underneath their beds every night because Europe and America (to say the least) have these capabilities.

The idea behind my point more or less is that we don't have any beef with North Korea and neither do most countries in the Western society because we do not have much trade relations with them, yet sticking our noses in saying their doing wrong, when I've already said we have little to do with them, will more than likely cause more problems. I believe in the case of Japan and North Korea there is much animosity, and trade flows quite heavily between the two countries.

If such occurences as you have mentioned do arise, I shall duck drop n roll and pray that my abstract outlook on most situations will place me in better hands in the afterlife, to say there is one is absurd, but well at the time of death I will surely grasp onto anything.

While I can obviously see where you're coming from, it's so idealistic and a little naive. Practically, there is very little good that can come from a dictatorship like NK controlling intercontinental ballistic nuclear missiles.

not to mention that the Korean war is not over and there are hundreds of thousands of troops still at either side of the border.

Its scary that they have Nukes - not because they are run by a dictator but because they are run by a psychopath. Other countries in the Nuke club dont become non-scary fi they arent dictatorship, its when their leaders are stupid and/or mad enough to consider detonating nuclear warheads that its time to be scared.

Right now countries most likely to fire them are:
North korea - test them as leverage to end sanctions
Israel - if attacked by an Arab state they would probably consider firing them
US - developing bunker busting mini nukes etc, all spin to cover that they are considering using nukes in combat.

Anyone have any idea if things have cooled significantly between India and Pakistan on the nuke front, not read anything about it for ages.
