Continuing deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan

There have been a rush of soldiers deaths in the past few weeks, overshadowed by events in Lebannon

Heres what one granmother had to say

Quote:
GRAN: I COULD HAPPILY STRANGLE BLAIR
SOLDIER'S IRAQ PLEDGE AFTER SCOT IS KILLED

FUMING Janet Nicholls last night slammed Tony Blair over the death of her grandson Ross.

And the OAP claimed she could "happily strangle" the PM for sending Ross to die in a "needless war".

Janet, 76, of Gilmerton, Edinburgh, pictured right with Ross, said: "This is a waste. Our boys are fighting wars they don't understand.

"They join up to take the king's shilling and find they are not fighting the enemy.

"They get sent to places where no one wants them.

"We want our boys back. Tony Blair should send his sons out there and see how it feels. This is not our fight.

"I could happily strangle Blair for sending our boys out there to die."

Grandfather Andrew, 77, added: "Going into other countries is wrong.

"Or if they are going, send the whole Army to get the job done, not a few thousand to be slaughtered.

"If Blair wants us to fight other peoples' wars, he should send his Cabinet or his MPs or his own boys.

"It is alright as long as it is somebody else's family."
Are these wars still on peoples radars or have we become numbed to the deaths by now?

In other news Rose Gentle and the other campaigners have managed to get a hearing for their case. A judge will decide if the government will have to argue the case for the Iraq war in court.

I cant think of a period of time when there hasnt been a conflict in the balkans. Im starting to get the impression we should just leave them too it and see who is left at the end of it :/

Wouldnt work though cos Iran has nukes and there is more chance they would just take a country out to save conflict if someone with more nukes than them wasnt standing in the way... *Shrug* I think numbed about sums it up. I didnt even know about the new conflicts until Tuesday... (I dont watch TV, read the news or listen to the radio...)

This post might sound horrible (apologies in advance), but me and my brother, who left the army around 5 months ago because he was bored of it, have spoke about it many many times (especially after a few drinks).

He's always told me although the shit is total pointless (and all of the lads who were in his squadron knew that), the majority of people who join the army get total pysched about going to a 'warzone' or whatever you wanna call it, because they feel as though they aren't taking part in their job if they don't get to go.

Even my brother was total well up for going to Iraq and shit just so he could be involved and actually put what he has been taught to do into practice. He's been put in the waiting list like 2 times, but never got to go. EVEN now he's gutted he never went to afghanistan for the cannabis burning and shit.

Personally I would hate to think there was a possibility he would ever die because of half the shit that's going on just now (because even I know that what's going on just now is a fucking joke in itself), but realistically if you sign up it's always a possibility. The army is there to 'defend and protect' or whatever, it is their job to go into dangerous situations under the governments idea's (or ideal's), no matter how wrong they may be. (im sure in other countries there has been a lot more death because of idealistic governemnts)

In short I'm glad he never went out to a proper warzone, or that I never lost him, but the sad truth is, when you sign up, it is a possibility, no matter how horrible or unjustified it may seem.

They get sent because it's their job as soldiers regardless of whether the war is justified or not. I very dear friend of mine is off to Baghdad in September as part of a US Army deployment and he knows what the risks are but he does it because of his love for his country, his family and because he believes that what he does is right.
