12 planets and counting?
Read this a while back, still dont think they have come to a decision but if they do agree on this it'll be pretty damn historical.

I don't really understand part of their decision. Pluto isn't a planet because it hasn't cleared its orbit of other bodies (in this case Neptune), which is the third condition a celestial body must satisfy to be called a planet.
In reverse though, doesn't that imply that Neptune isn't a planet as it was unable to clear its orbit of Pluto. It just seems that if A isn't a planet because it overlaps the orbit of B, B logically isn't a planet because it overlaps the orbit of A. I don't care though, it's just a rock millions of miles away, but I don't see how that third condition can be applied. I'm probably missing something. |
