£300,000 discrimination against women
The Equal Opportunities Commission has announced that over the course of their lives, women are discriminated against to the tune of £300,000, due to the gender pay gap.
http://money.aol.co.uk/money-news/di...26111409990019 And that is working women, never mind all the unemployed carers in Britain, the vast majority of whom are women, who are entitled to about £45 a week which the government says is the equivalent pay to a full time job, despite the fact that many of them are working round the clock and on-call constantly. And that carers allowance is tax deductable. Last edited by Hecate : 26th October 2006 at 10:07 PM. |

Aye it's completely mental, pay should reflect the importance of the job, either within the structure of the company or society at large, being male or female has fuck all to do with how important your job is.

Obviously in jobs where there is a set wage then there aren't discrepancies between gender pays, but it's where there's bonuses, performance-related pay and commissions that the differences creep in. |

That's irrelevant, as whether or not there are a few careers where women are paid more then men, the EOC has found that on average women are paid £300k less than men over their working lives.
If you want more details, I suggest you get them directly from source. No-one seems outraged at the £45 a week that carers get, the vast majority of whom are women. It is a separate issue but shows the discrimination still going on against women who can't go out and work full-time since they are caring for someone. |

is the average woman doing the same jobs as the average man? and what about male carers? why is no one outraged for them! PS i think everyone should be paid for the job they do regardless. |

Just got bad repped and told to stop talking my feminist bullshit, and equality is a much better option.
This discussion is about fucking equality of pay, where did I suggest that women get more than men?? Fucking arsehole. Whoever called me a feminist for standing up for equality of pay is quite clearly an ignorant mysoginist. |

sorry this is pretty lazy but im just gunna re-post this from something i was looking at... 1. Education * significant numbers of women-only courses, from which men excluded * funding for such courses e.g. women-returners, which is not available to men. 2. Employment * programmes to ‘encourage women into certain professions’, while none to encourage men e.g. Women Into Science & Engineering (WISE) * training courses for women-only e.g. women-returners * male unemployment rate is higher * changes in types of industry, away from men-based manufacturing to women-based service industries, while no support to assist men at all 3. Taxation * widow’s bereavement allowance, none for widowers * transfer of personal allowances husband to wife, not vice versa 4. Social Security * state pension age difference of 5 years, combined with average age of death, men pay in 5 years longer and draw out 11 years less – about £20,000 difference in the investment * widow’s benefits, no widower’s * w |
