the sars virus is something that is getting more and more press coverage now that the war in Iraq is drawing to a close. But what do you think can be done to stop the spread of it around the globe. With Canada begining to feel the brunt of it with 14 deaths and Hong Kong and China having more than 90 deaths each, do you think it will develop into pandemic? are people travelling too freely without thinking of the consequences of their actions? What would you do if you had the power?

Well first off, it's a conspiracy. The chinese government's obviously been testing chemical weapons. They've got the capability, and the history for this to be a feasible reason for a mysterious new disease to just appear fully developed without any warning.
The problem with treating it, is the same problem as treating every other disease. There are no international efforts. Each nation/corporation wants to find the cure for themselves so they can market it more effectively. It's the same as everything really. If we'd just say "fuck profit" and share our information and resources, we'd get a lot further. |

reminds me of something Chris Rock once said about AIDS.
'They aint ever gonna find a cure, aint ever gonna find the cure. You know why? Cos their aint money in the cure' or something to that effect.

the mortality rate for this thing is extremely low
it effectively causes pneumonia, which causes a fever that can usually be controlled by normal hospital practices. As per usual, the media have blown this out of proportion slightly. still, it shouldn't have happened - the chinese fucked up majorly because they feared losing too much economical interest |

SARS stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. It's spread, from what I can gather, in a similar way as the flu. close person to person contact, coughs, sneezes etc....
It seems to have similar symptoms as a really bad flu - high temp, body aches and respiratory symptoms. To be honest they don't really know a huge amount about it except that it really fucks you up. It's getting treated like a severely infectious flu/pneumonia shenanigans. Remember a few years ago when loads of old people were getting popped off by that nasty flu? Imagine something that does the same to normal/healthy adults! At the mo it's fatality rate is about 3% and they don't really know enough about it's cause to treat it. bit scary really but I agree that the media is going a bit mad over it. I'm off to buy a full NBC suit and a gas mask now just incase Snoogins bHd |
