Yeah, 3am this morning UK time. Pretty quick considering his appeal was dismissed just this boxing day.

so none of you opinionated opiners have any opinions about this?
If we get past that I believe the death penalty is fundamentally wrong under any circumstances the fact remains that the whole situation just makes me kinda queasy. It smacks of hypocrisy and wrongheadedness. |

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about capital punishment, but I'm not going to feel down about the death of a dictator.
He was probably treated 1 million times better than the thousands of people in Iraq that were put to death in his name, simply for disagreeing with his government. Last edited by humndislocation : 30th December 2006 at 09:13 PM. |

They were talking on the news about his will. I REALLY want to know what's in his will. "To the American infidels I leave my weapons of mass destruction, they only have to find them first"
They should have put him in jail for the rest of his days. His death is going to trigger even more problems in that country. |

It was obvious that was the outcome when the appointed court and judge decided to have a very narrow scope. The two problems I have are it wasn't done through the International Criminal Courts where it *should* have been conducted. The second is that he wasn't charged with all the crimes he commited. So for example there was no evidence as to who had supplied him sattelite imagery of troop movements to better position his poison gas launches against Iran *cough* Reagans govt *cough*

They are still conducting his trials even though he's dead and not there to defend himself. He's dead and probably deserved it but to conduct the trial the way they did makes the whole justice system in Iraq looking incompetent. If that is how everyone is going to be treated then what hope is their for Iraq? I also agree that the trial should have been done in front of an international court where he would have had a greater chance of a fair trial than in Iraq. Basically the Iraqi government as it stands is still in it's infancy and the judicial system is a mess.

I find the whole thing ridiculous and agree that he should have been tried in front of an international court. What good is a trial in Iraq when they are still under occupation. His execution also caused retaliation in baghdad with more car bombs happening and more innocent people injured or killed. And for what? To put him to death when we need answers about what really went on in Iraq. If a member of my family was killed under his regime, I wouldnt feel justice was done.
I strongly disagree with the death penalty as well, regardless of the crime. I'm sure he would have suffered more rotting in jail but instead he got the satisfation of dying a martyr which will please his supporters. The whole situation stinks. |
