I am all for everyone getting treated by the NHS, whether they be smokers, heroin addicts, whatever. You can't separate out what causes someone's illness, unless it's cut-and-dried like liver damage from drinking, or obvious damage from drugs, but even then they should be treated like everyone else. It's more important to look at prevention in society and treatment programmes instead.
There are so many carcinogens around, including pollution in the air, and in our foods, that it's impossible to determine which carcinogen is responsible say in cancer. As for the over 18 for smoking issue, I think it's an excellent idea, although it wouldn't have prevented me from smoking as I started when I was 21. |

How much does the Cigarete industry contibute to the NHS and welfare state through tax? Must be a shitload seeing as its one of the most profitable industries in the world (along with Military Equipment Production, Pornography and Computers).

i dont think they should be banned altogether, i think the best possible solution would be to bump the legal age up to 21. i would guess the amount of new smokers each year would fall dramitically, maybe even half the amount?

yep its a strange one.
on one hand, youve got everyone telling you that you shouldnt smoke, and not too smoke, and theres so much money spent on no smoking campaigns and treatment for people who have lung cancer thats associated with smoking etc. so when you see that the solution is obvious, ban them. but, if they ban fags, when will it end? ban booze? ban caffeine? ban unhealthy foods? plus all the money generated from selling cigarettes too... |

I don't get it cos you drink. How does that work? It's impossible to ban everything deemed unhealthy, where do you draw the line? All it creates is a blackmarket instead, which is unhealthy for society as a whole. What's all this freedom of choice brigade stuff? lol yoiu shitstirrer How about your Parkour? It fucks your knees, joints and shins. Where would you stand on freedom of choice if that was taken away from you? Or couldn't get free treatment on the NHS for self-inflicted injuries? What if you fuck your legs, back or neck for life and can't work or get treatment on the NHS? For one thing, Rick and many other metal singers would sing like Chris Martin from Coldplay if it wasn't for fags! |

Yeah but it's the gutteral stuff that loads of singers openly admit smoking makes a big difference, awful though that is. That's not the reason behind Rick taking up smoking though and I'm not trying to condone it, it was more to lighten the tone of my post to Kieran as I'm not trying to start an argument just interested in his viewpoint.

I've expressed my view multiple times in real life and on t'internet, but moreso in real life because the internet makes people extermely argmentative over issues like this where they wouldn't normally argue (not you kate... i mean other ppl just in ge |
