To be fair, internet discussions on religion turn to shit 90% of the time. It's just one of those things that most people can't discuss on the internet without turning into a total dick. Especially given that most people getting involved in a religious argument, on either side, have absolutely no interest in changing their viewpoint whatsoever.

Best case scenario, after a few pages, both sides reach an impasse, when it pretty much boils down to the fact that one side sees believing in something without evidence through faith, to be valid, and the other doesn't. Best case scenario, the discussion fizzles out when both sides state "well this is what I believe, and I'm not going to change my view".

Brian makes a good point, a thread on the internet will never change people's views on anything major, unfortunatly some people just cant continue a serious discussion without childish spiteful comments which although i stated is whats wrong with UGS, it is found everywhere unfortunatly.

Thee Alex makes a very confrontational approach to what he says, when he has taken apart people's arguments (which is what a discussion should do, albeit the manner in which it was done left a lot to be desired) rather than the person saying "hmmm you have a point" or better yet, retalliated in an educated and informed manner they resort to this pathetic behaviour.

As for having the last word without him being able to retalliate, i didnt realise that mentality went on beyond primary school. Maybe being comfortable enough in your own belief, or non-belief, would be perhaps a more fitting retaliation?

KJ you do an awesome job on this site dude! you cant be expected to babysit the childish elements and nor should you!

The post he's replying to is pretty much just saying "hurf de durf your girlfriend is stupid and i am so smart. P.S. I am jerking myself off right now over how right I am for not buying into religion".

I don't see why he should be expected to dignify it with a serious response.

Its more that they wren't the only people on the thread to be on one of Alex's replies yet seem to be the only ones doing it for "comedy value" which makes another UGS thread full of childish name calling and point scoring. (and not just on this thread alone...)

It happens waaaay too much on here. I feel sorry for KJ who puts in a lot of effort into trying to make this site a good place to come but how many folk say "ive had it with this..." and dont come back?

His girlfriend seemed to have been doing a pretty good job of standing up for herself as well anyways. I always find if someone's being a wanker on a forum being a wanker back just makes everything worse, making yourself just as bad as them (i know, ive done it as im sure most folk have at one time or another)

I would have said your post Brian (#390) was pretty much where this thread should have been closed.
