No, really they wont. The life of Jesus isn't taught in history classes, as it's not history. Even my own dad, a former Head of History in a Secondary school and devout Christian knew he couldn't get away with presenting myth as history.

Jesus has nothing to do with our basic (global, not just Western) values, social evolution has.

Consider: two social groups, one realises that murder, rape, theft etc are harmful to the group, the other thinks all those things are ok.

Which is going to survive? It doesn't take a genius to acknowledge that the first group is more likely to grow and spread. The second group would probably kill itself off.

Over time those ideas of 'right and wrong' would become 'hard wired' into the successive generations of offspring of the first group (and it is rather telling that many of the great apes share a similar distaste towards murder, theft and infidelity, as we do).

To claim that 'Western Values' were started by Jesus is at best misguided, and at worst downright bone headed.

Pubic Wig, if you are a Christian then you are worshipping a 'God' whose ONLY message to mankind (and, whether you like it or not, the SOLE source of your belief system) is a book filled with homophobia, child murder, and sexism, topped off with an unhealthy love of enslaving human beings (as long as they are not from the Children of Israel).

Seriously, are you not seeing what's wrong with that? Or is your 'faith' so blind that reason isn't allowed in?

Jesus certainly seemed to believe that the Old Testament was true, he thought that the Creation story was true, that the flood actually happened (seriously!! The Flood!! It's far from being the only reason, but one of the major reasons I became an atheist was the fact that some parts of the bible are blatently false, and that therefore if you want to believe, your choice is either to put your fingers in your ears and pretend the evidence is wrong, to randomly pick and choose which bits you think are true, or to accept an ever shrinking part of the bible that hasn't been falsified.

Well the whole existence of god thing can't really be 100% falsified , to the extent that the existence of fairies, or Moblor the unholy pagan kebab god of the forest, can't be falsified.

(Moblor really exists though, I awoke him from his 7000 year slumber to make me a donner kebab when I was drunk one time, it was very tasty)
