as we can clearly see here, lack of religion doesn't imply tolerance.

I think it's also safe to assume that religion doesn't imply intolerance. I know plenty of religious people who couldn't care less what I believe, they think I'm wrong but they don't try to change me or think me evil because of my beliefs.

This thread should be called "The non-thinking that is idiotic Old Firm fan chants". I'm a Rangers fan, like you and my dad informed me the other day that all the shit that is sung (by rangers fans anyway) is complete pish. Actual nonsense in the most precise use of the word nonsense.

I was brought up as a fundamentalist believer, and I believed it for a LONG time. Then I woke up and realised it was nonsense.

As for other religions, I have tried to educate myself as much about them as possible and have at least a basic idea of the belief structures of the three major faiths.

I agree that most of the pish sung at the ground is nonsense, but it still is seen as an "excuse" by knuckleheads to cause trouble. However, i agree those Knuckleheads would probably find another excuse if there was no such thing as bigotry...

i may not have great historical knowledge of World War 2 but didnt the Nazi party not just single out jews but also Jehovah's witnesses and Catholic clergymen?

Are you suggesting that we should tolerate something if it is clearly wrong? Do you tolerate people who think that being a racist is ok (incidentally the religious books of the world are chock full of racist, sexism and raging homophobia)? If someone believed that you were evil and deserved to die because you had a certain hair cut would you tolerate that?

I don't think any rational, secular human being should tolerate vile hate preaching religions with origins in the infancy of our species, no matter how 'cuddly' and 'acceptable' those religions try to make themselves appear.

i may indeed have fallen into the trap without much research onto the subject, i have just googled it a little it all seems a little contradictory.
I guess however with things like events across the middle east between israel and palestine and things like that someone with a better historical knowledge of wars than myself might be able to clarify correct, or confirm im wrong

I would say greed and land are the main causes for bloody wars but I'm no expert, that's just my guess.
