also i can see where Scott is coming from, ive never gone past midnight in a call centre but even around then its total mind numbing...who really wants to report a broadband fault at that time? on the other hand, yeah Asda and Tesco did start up by being small companies who did well at what they did, but if they have such a strangehold on the market and can force prices so low that they dominate a market share how can new business' grow to the point where they can challenge the big players? meaning that the choice given to us as consumers is dictated by the same four companies.... |

grr.. going to work again soon, so not much time to reply...
Keerin, you mention that tesco's tacuma TV was cheaper than your shop's superior hitatchi TV, but you say nothing about the prices of stock which is exactly the same, I'd guess they were also undercutting you on LG, Sony and Panasonic goods that were exactly the same in both stores. In these cases, why would anyone choose the more expensive shop with less of a guarantee? Especially when the shop you worked in might not be around in 6months to honour the guarantee - I don't see Tesco disappearing in the next year. And on the convenience thing: if you want to spend an extra 2 hours and whatever extra cash you'd need doing your shopping in smaller stores then fair enough, but I'd rather have the time to have a kickabout in the park with some mates, and the cash to have a couple of extra pints later on. I don't see how that makes me "lazy". |

I personally think that's lazy because your health should be your top priority. It's probably cheaper overall to shop around and it's only gonna take more time the first few times before you get to know what you are doing. Also, you can get veggie boxes delivered to your door now. Not too sure about meat but at least where I live there is a butchers round the corner. If you don't care where your meat has come from and are quite happy getting any old meat, or if you don't care about what you are eating full stop, that's fine, but I would class that as lazy. Also, I don't see how it can be hard to understand how it is bad that companies such as Tesco and Asda have such a big market share that they can demand UK farmers to meet promotion and advertising costs which they have to do under threat of lost business. (1) or that they alter the exports of a small country (happened to costa rica, can't find internet source) so much that the country would face financial collapse if they stopped trading with supermarkets! Maybe slightly off supject but found this this morning too: BBC NEWS | Business | Supermarkets 'fixed dairy prices'
