I just think that for a company that started out as a website dedicated to finding everything on the web and promising to never censor stuff there turning into cash cows.

Voted yes, as it is harmless, and anything to help with the costs of UGS is OK in my book.

It is a really funny thing that! But it is understandable that a few walls will crumble if people start throwing millions of dollars at you. I will never have a go at anyone that starts anything from scratch with a 'moral' idea in thier head that they will NEVER sell out. As I believe when they do set out they have small issues in mind, local communities, local issues etc etc.
If something takes off big styleeee and huge companies and corporates are offering you the kind of money to see you and future generations if your family a secure future, then I for one do not begrudge them letting morals slip and accepting money. I would do it in a shot. I am all up for doing stufff on a community level, but after that I'm open to anyone.

I am probably opening myself to a lot of criticism, but hey, that is the way it is and my family come first. I'm not talking mum and dad here, but more about my children and anyone who has any will know what I mean. Anyone who doesn't, please do not have a go, because until you have kids and a biological snse of morality takes over, you haven't a clue what you are talking about.

I have now been typing so long, I have forgotten what I was typing about, and thatis no joke.QQQ!Q!!!!!

just had a quick scan nad yeah, Don't blame people for selling out until you know why! Col

A bit drunk, but happy!

im not sure about the ogrish thing, but in China, I'm sure they knew that if they didn't sensor themselves then the government would do it for them. It works better if they do it themselves. That way, if some little Chinaman searches tiananmen square, Google will give them results about the square and all the nice things about it. but nothing about the little incident in 1989.

If it was just sensored by the government, someone searching tiananmen square would probably just find a page saying "F00k aff!"

When my dad was in china, he met someone in tiananmen square and he basically said he'd heard the odd bit here and there about the massacre in '89 but noone really knew much about what happened, he asked Dad if he could bring him back some videos (news clips and stuff) next time he was in China (he worked in Mongolia for 2 1/2 years so was there quite often). Dad sent an email to amnesty international explaining basically what had happened and asking if they could send him some videos and things. They replied saying basically that it was a very bad idea, if he got caught taking stuff like that into China, he'd probably be taken out and shot.

I'm sure the case is that if they didn't censor themselves then there would be no Google China full stop.

That story with your dad... Jeez. I find it funny that we're going around "liberating" the world... Except the boys that are bigger than us.
