Euro PS3 not backward compatible?
the new euro ps3 isn't going to be backward compatible, how much of a kick in the nads is that to Sony's chances of winning back the ground the Wii and 360 have gained? Pretty big i reckon. I wonder if they'll go down the route that MS did by releasing updates for games to make them backward compatible on a regular basis.

I think this will be the least of their worries. It's out in less than a month and most shops are still taking pre-orders for it.
I'm not sure about the Wii, but were all available pre-orders not fulfilled before the same point? A lot of shops are claiming that they will meet all demand, which seems to suggest that it hasn't generated the interest that the other next gen consoles did. Shooting, foot, themselves, the, in, are words that spring to mind considering the release was already delayed. Just as well I bought a 360, then sold all my ps2 games. |

I just dont understand why they don't make it the same as the US version... there must be a good reason for it.

cutting out some of the PS2 hardware from it to make it cheaper to manufacture or something like that. Perhaps that means they've come along quite well with software emulation though.
PS1 compatability will be unchanged. |

So they take out the PS2 hardware to make it cheaper to manufacture , but they expect us to pay a higher price for the unit than the USA and Japan ????!?! And PS1/2 compatability will be affected in the fact they won't be as much compatability as the US/Japanese versions check here http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37833 Go Figure ????!?!? Here's some highlights from a news article on it:
"Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3," said David Reeves, president of SCEE. "The backwards compatibility is not going to be as good as in the US and Japanese models," a Sony spokesperson told Reuters. Full story here: http://gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=23003 |

Also, Sony have stated that there will be 1000 PS2 games that are backwards compatible with the PS3 in time for launch, but will not disclose what games they are until the machines launch day in Europe, but there is a website to visit.

there's a couple of PS2 games won't work properly at the moment - Timesplitters 2 gives me problems but 3 didn't.
I bought it to play PS3 games on anyway. I don't plan on getting rid of my PS2 anyway - I'm not exactly gonna get much for a release day big ps2. The only real BC issues are with things like guitar hero, singstar and buzz controllers but I imagine there'll be adaptors available soon if not already. |
