"A masterpiece of religious parody in the tradition of Kurt Vonnegut.
Japs Eye Fontanelle, an 88-year-old overweight, retired Japanese kamikaze pilot, insists that he is the rightful king of the Holy Channel Island of Jersey. He also claims to be the Creator of the Universe

This is his autobiography, written while under armed guard inside the gold vault at Fort Knox. Fontanelle recounts his truly remarkable life: from his birth in the city of Kyoto and his involvement in World War II, to his study of the ancient science of astrology, the historic discovery of his own divinity, and the founding of the first Astrological Kingdom on Earth.

It is a irreverent take on modern belief, Bo Fowler skewers everything from suicide missions to Shinto monks, and reveals the cosmic secrets of astrology: Virgo women's lucky soup is tomato, and Tarus men enjoy spanking and Chinese food"

It has been very funny so far.

The bit that is doing my head in is this (taken from a review of the book):

"It's more than a little confusing that Zizo refers to himself in the third person as "God" yet continues to use first person pronouns ("God waved, or rather God wriggled my podgy fingers"). "

you will have to let us know if its any good, if it is then i may go back and buy it after all!

Well its late I know. I finished it a few weeks ago and I was pretty impressed. Its no ground-breaking literature but its VERY readable. It flows well, never really lets you lose interest and will almost certainly teach you a coupel of interesting little facts to say the least.

I was pretty chuffed to know most of the symbology and things which cropped up but I was still amazed by it.

Right now Im reading Norwegian Wood (sounds like a gay porn movie) by Haruki Murakami, Midnight All Day by Hanif Kureishi and some old book on impressionism I found in Barnardo's in St. Andrews.

Norwegian Wood. I've read that and a couple of other Murakami books. I really liked them, bit odd sometimes but good. (y) What you thinking of it so far?

hmmm, I'm thinking I may have to go and buy this book after all!!!

I finished 'The astrological diary of god' and I didn't find it all that good to be honest. Don't think I will be picking it up for a re-read anytime soon.

I've just started 'Well' by Matthew McIntosh

youthcultureforsale is on a distinguished road
Three books at the moment BRANDED, THE SHRINE OF JERRFEY DAHMER, TALKING WITH SERIAL KILLERS, all seem pretty good. My obssession with serial killers needed a top up.

Im actually kind of dissapointed so far. People keep telling me how incredible it is but so far the narative has been putting me off. Its so unemotive and has such objective robotic reveiws of the action when it seems to me its meant to be some soul wrenching recollection of love lost.
SO far in the early stages of the book it seems to have been just a long list of events devoid of complex wit, humour or emotion. Although the oddities of the characters are quite enticing.

(failed english, therfor opinion worthless..........cries)

I feel that books that spend too much time at the start setting the sceen, in a very dettached way, are really really hard to get into. I prefer to find out more about the setting through the character and the emotions that they are experiencing, which also allows you to find out more about the character as well. I just love books where I start feeling for the character when he/she is going through a rough time etc, its such a good feeling when you can get completely lost in a book. Now thats when you know you have a very well written book and that you have throughly enjoyed it!

the book i'm reading is called 'the local girls', by alice hoffman.
its been great for when i'm too tired for something totally deep, but it's still pretty thought-provoking
