just finished the curious incident of the dog in the night. i really enjoyed it and was pretty fascinated by the ins and outs of aspergers syndrome.(kinda gave me a bit more appreciation for dustin hoffman in rain man too). Pretty funny in places and although there are some sad incidents there is never any sad feeling which is strange. i have to say that for a boy of 15, way too many strangers (who are adults) swear at him and i started to come out of the book a bit when it would happen every time an adult saw a sick young kid and would just say "fuck" for the sake of it.
just started the shining by stephen king but fell asleep so ill need to start again ![]() |

Just finished 'Jarhead'. It was a very good book, a true story writen by a serving marine during Operation Desert Storm. It gives you a view from the frontline and lets you see some of what really does go on, the things that don't appear in the newspapers!

Borges
I just read Labyrinths by Jorge Luis Borges again for the first time in a few years. I absolutley love this book... there's something most unheimlich about it. It's a bit of a bookish book, if you know what I mean, but I would urge anyone to read it because it really is very good. And it's short short stories too, so you can pick it up and put it down...
My copy is 33 years old, knackered, yelllow and stinks.. that wonderful musty old book smell, combined with years of dope smoking.. ahhh, it enhances the experience so subtly, but so well. |

just seeing this thread and thought of a way of fundraising. How hard is it to set up a referrer account for amazon? people can post reviews of books theyve read and link to amazon.co.uk/?referrer=helpUGS or whatever and anyone who buys book through link a chunk goes to site?
If Kj could set one up Id put some decent reviews, and not just 3 liners of books. A way to make more interesting posts and help UGS |

I've been trying to get into 'Whit' by Iain Banks over the last few days but I just couldn't. So I have actually put the book down
Today though I picked up 'Fight Club' and I'm storming my way through it, very well written. I think I will go and finish it just now actually |
