It was obviously a personal reply as it was funny and in his style. It made me smile

Aww that's ace! I remember I wrote to an author when I was wee and I was so happy when I got a reply. Years later I found the reply lurking in a cupboard when I was putting stuff in boxes for moving house, it was only then I realised that my mum had written the letter and sent it to me so I wouldn't be disappointed.

I have those 2 books I'm still trying to get through them. I have a laid back job so I'll hopefully manage over the summer! I love the bits written in broad Scots in 'One Fine Day...', makes me laugh everytime.

Should get some more of his books...

I'm slightly apprehensive. I always think that films of books are terrible. But I'm willing to blindly believe that this will be great.

Yeah, books are generally better (in my opinion). Although, you do get a few which prove that theory wrong. Maybe this will be one *fingers crossed*

Yeah the broad Scots makes me smile too

oh and keep your eye on Fopp, they get Brookmyre books in from time to time at decent prices and Otakers(sp? the old James Thins) often have them on offer, I got 2 of his books there with a couple of quid off of them

fauna is on a distinguished road
I'm reading the first Harry Potter book, as I've finally given in to all things HP!

I love Douglas Coupland, I've still to read 'All Families Are Psychotic' and 'Life After God' which are sitting ready to be read!

I agree books are generally better than films adaptions of them. The film usually misses out little details (or major) that may not seem important, but having read the books you adore. Or the film is not at all like how you visualised the book!
