A new version of Big Brother could last forever.

German station RTL2, currently broadcasting a series lasting one year, is adapating the format on a much bigger scale - with no end date in mind.

The new show will be set in a purpose-built town and feature hundreds of regular people as the inhabitants. The town, currently being built outside Hamburg, will have its own forest, town square, shops and schools.

Producer Rainert Laux said that "the very best people" would be picked to live in the town and that all of them would be unemployed.

"We hope couples will get pregnant and family groups will interact with all the usual family frictions," said Laux. "They can do exams there if they want to go to school, learn languages or any other type of professional examination for a career and eventual employment."

He said that the main contestants could live there for decades, providing the show remains popular.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of cameras will capture every moment in the town. Live streaming will go out on the web 24 hours a day, and nightly highlight shows will air on RTL2.

It is unknown how much is being spent on the project.

might be a stupid point but ill go for it anyway, what if this little world degenerated into some sort of anarchy, plus the people born and raised there would end up really fucked up

once again reality shows go too far, this will only be enjoyable for a few months if that...everyone would get fed up watching it after a while, it would be the same thing over and over

How could they keep track of it though? It would be impossible to take the "interesting" events form the day and present them in the form of a show. If it was continous stream then how would you figure who to follow?

That's just creepy. I get absorbed into the normal Big Brother's (yes, I know it may be sad, but I'm not the only one) but actually living your life like you're a Big Brother housemate? Why would anybody actually want to do that?! I'm not sure if they could pull it off to any great effect though, I mean sure, they could make it last for a while, but I expect that something would go wrong eventually... That's just me though.
