Hunter S Thompson commits suicide :(
From BBC news
Hunter S Thompson, the American counterculture writer, has been found dead at his home in Colorado. Thompson's son, Juan, found his body. He said the 67-year-old shot himself. This is sad news, but not entirely unexpected.

damn. this was the guy who single handedly got me hooked on American politics.
Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 is one of the most searingly truthful, funniest and well written pieces of journalism ever. i'm sure most journalists won't mind admitting that deep down they really want to be Hunter S. Thompson... RIP Doc. |

have been flicking through The Proud Highway, the first volume of his letters. A little episode that stuck out for me was a 21 year old Hunter, hoping one day to emulate his literary heroes F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, actually typing out The Great Gatsby and A Farewell to Arms in their entirety in order to understand their magic and make him a better writer.
I dunno... the man behind the myth and all that... I just found it kinda touching. |
