David Lynch

Today, as part of my course, we watched 'Lost Highway' by David Lynch. It was absolutely amazing! Has anyone else seen it? Didn't quite follow it but I loved the use of music in the film (Which is why I was watching it- my lecture was on 'Music in film')

Has anyone got any other Lynch recommendations? (Mullholland Drive and Blue Velvet pretty much obvious choices...) Would be interested to hear.

I think I might write my final essay of this year on 'Lost Highway' so if anyone knows any good websites or books to read about it, please tell me.

Watch the film Dune - it was directed by Lynch. The music in the film is along the lines of classical rock whilst the special effects used in the film are awe inspiring. It was made in 1984 and ive seen modern films with worse effect work.

There is a good chance though that you wont have much of an idea whats going on the first time round (much like Lost Highway )

anyways thats my 2 bob.

Oh yeah, its also got a very young Kyle McLachlan (of Sex in the City fame) in the leading role.

Honestly, i can't watch him on screen now without being reminded of the scene where he was jacking off to porn in the bathroom.

I love Dune! I didn't realise it was Lynch though...

Will definately have to watch Lost Highway again with someone who perhaps understands what's going on!

Yeah it can be a pickler at the end, not gonna say much about it. just watch it again and you'll catch on to things you never noticed first time round

I get to study Film Music next year

Had another lecture on 'Lost Highway' today...It's a film about the subconcious/ fantasy/ dreams/ madness/ insanity I discovered. Even my lecturer (who has edited books on David Lynch's filming techniques etc) doesn't really have a clue what is going on!

Aye, it was. I've only seen Mulholland Drive + about half of Blue Velvet but I really liked Mulholland Drive.

I fucking loved Eraserhead, if you're going to be a completist, you must see it. It's probably the most literal film out of Lost Highway and Mullholland Drive. MD can be easily explained too though, LH is the bugger, but I read some explanations on it that made sense.

Check the www.imdb.com for helpful info and search google for other info on those three films.

Brilliant

David Lynch is brilliant. I would recommend all of his work (except Dune):

Wild at Heart
The Straight Story
The Elephant Man
Eraserhead
Hotel Room
Twin Peaks (series)

He's directed music videos and other shorts, documentaries, etc.

I am in love with him.
