Louis Theroux - The Most Hated Family In America

Did anyone else watch this tonight?
I was in shock throughout the entire program.
I'd obviously heard of the family before due to them protesting at funerals but I am amazed that they can teach such hatred to children and dress it up as religion.
Some of the things they believed just made no sense at all.
Surely that is a form of psychological abuse to the children and if they don't grow up to kill someone then I can see one of them being killed.
They had their 7 year old son out protesting with them and he was hit by something thrown out of a car.
How can any mother possibly put their child through that?

This made me super depressed while I watched it. You could see the hurt written all over Louis face when he was trying to reason with the girl. Such a shame since she seems smart enough, was a fairly pretty girl and has resigned herself to this life. The fact that she was reluctant to discuss her 'rebelious' days probably suggest that she was forced to conform and really doesnt want to remember it.

yeah it was so fucked up. made me so so angry! the fact that they brainwash their kids into it from such an early age, but also that they turn the bible into a tool for hatred. they kept contradicting themselves aswell - like condemming the jews, yet sharing some of the same beliefs. ridiculous.

the hard thign about this is that by opposing them or insulting them it's actually being just as bad as they are by discriminating against their beliefs.

it's not really discrimination.

it's pointing out the fact that these views are so hate-filled and wrong. it's also raising serious questions on whether or not promoting such hate to youngsters border's abuse. i really don't see that as discriminant behaviour towards someones already contradictory beliefs.

Disagreeing with someone does not constitute discriminating against them.

Also, insulting someone for having hateful beliefs is not the same thing as insulting and hating someone for some immutable trait.

i watched this in total shock, and when the 'minister' or whatever they reffered to him as wouldnt answer louis questions it made it seem like he himself, did not know what he was telling the people. And is it just me or does the Bible not tell people to love other people, not to make a disgrace of peoples funerals?

yeh, true. im not sure how to word what im thinking - some place along the lines of condeming these "christians" is equal to condeming muslims for their beliefs? but then this family's level of christianity is questionable.

From what I've read and seen, good muslim families are quick to distance themselves from the more "extremist" muslims, which is the stance I'd imagine any good christian to take upon this family.
