Dexter

What an exceptionally good series this has been. This has undoubtedly been my favourite of the recent big US dramas. The atmosphere was tense and exciting, the main character likeable, a great supporting cast and a bad guy who became no less scary after his identity was revealed. In comparison Lost left me... well, lost and a bit cold really. Heroes was good but when every episode is essentially a new character showing off a new super-power it got a bit repetitive and House, while generally excellent, can be a little hard to take seriously at times with each patient never having the obvious problem and Hugh Laurie always knowing the answers. A bit like Quincy but getting to them before they've actually snuffed it.

Anyway, back to Dexter. After weeks of excellent story and pacing it was with a pinch of salt that I watched Dexter’s final plot twist come round. I won't ruin it for anyone but, for fuck sake, it's the kind of predictable "long lost... whatever" bollocks you would expect from a soap opera. That said the delightfully sick spin on this hoary old cliché in the final minutes of the last episode was pretty sweet.

This series was about half-way through its first run on FX when I got cable put in the flat last year and even though I'd heard good things about it I decided to wait until I could se it from the beginning. I'm glad I did this as the weekly cliff-hangers were almost as exciting as the episodes themselves. I know I'm going to be impatient for series two though so a trip to some torrent websites might be in order.

Oh yeah - How good are the opening credits by the way?

Funny I should read this now as I've just noticed some awful-looking programme on at the moment with Jaime Murray/Lila - who plays a major role in Season 2 - in it.

Anyway, I think Michael C. Hall is excellent as Dexter. I absolutely loved Six Feet Under, so I expected it to be difficult - and annoying! - to imagine him as any character other than David Fisher. However, he somehow seems perfect for the role - at least in my opinion - and manages to make Dexter believable as the "charming on the surface" character he's meant to be.

Season 2 is amazing. It's difficult to say anything about it without giving anything away so I won't! I've so far resisted the temptation to read the 3rd book and therefore ruin the (inevitable) 3rd season, but it's very tempting. I just wish my sister would hurry up and watch the 2nd season so we could talk about it; if she doesn't do it soon, I'll have completely forgotten what happens.

Sad, but true - I watched every episode of series two online over saturday and sunday.

Fantastic! Even better than the series that has just been on ITV. I hear a third season has already started filming which is great news. This is my new favourite show. The writing, acting and whole feel of the show is superb.

If you have yet to see it both series can be found here
