Dead Kennedys peace offering to Biafra?

Did anyone else pick up on this? the Kennedys invited Biafra to
play at their 25th anniversary gig in Los Angeles and as they say
try to bury the hatchet.Do you think it was a stunt or do you think
it was a genuine olive branch?

I missed this at the time but wondered if anyone else picked
up on it,another example of the messy world of music and
lawsuits

Ali.

08.12.03 - Dead Kennedys Invite Jello Biafra to Perform at 25th Anniversary Show in Los Angeles August 19, 2003

Los Angeles, Calif., & San Francisco, Calif. – Seminal punk rock band Dead Kennedys announced today that they are extending an offer to former lead singer Jello Biafra to rejoin the band at their 25th Anniversary concert at the Key Club in Los Angeles on August 19th, 2003.

“We are absolutely serious in asking Jello to rejoin the band on our anniversary,” said Dead Kennedys bassist Klaus Flouride. “This is not a prank or a publicity stunt. Last evening we sent word to Biafra and his representatives informing him of this offer. We wanted to make sure he was informed in advance, so he knows that we are serious in asking for him to participate. We'd love it, and I think the fans would love it, if we could just bury the hatchet.”

“This isn't about nostalgia,” said Dead Kennedys guitarist East Bay Ray. “There are serious problems in the world right now and Dead Kennedys' message of questioning authority and thinking for yourself is more important than ever before. Maybe we could settle our differences and play together while we are all still able to do so.”

UPDATE: Jello Biafra has declined Dead Kennedys' invitation and will not be at the band's 25th Anniversary party August 19, 2003. Biafra has two pending lawsuits that he filed against Dead Kennedys and East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride and D. H. Peligro, one in Alameda County Superior Court and one in United States Federal Court.

I was going to see them last year but the gig got cancelled.
They were using Brandon Cruz as the frontman and by a
lot of accounts he was doing a good job but he has now
left and I think they have got Jeff Penalty.

They are also releasing In God we trust this time with
the original recordings and video.I didn't know that they
had to re-record the EP because the original tapes got
damaged but apparently they have been restored.

This is a subject area that really pisses me off!

Whether or not the offer was genuine, I don't think there's any way in hell that Jello would consider such a thing. The rest of the band are the guys that wanted to use "Holiday in Cambodia" for a fucking Levi's commercial, they are the ones that took Jello to court for unpaid royalties (there was an accounting error which was later rectified and all band members were duly paid accordingly), they are the ones that have whored the legacy of the Kennedys by reforming with a puppet. They played for troops and dedicated songs to brutal murderers from the stage in San Francisco - I mean, the fucking cheek.

Jello has, and had, principles. He also stuck to them. The rest of the band probably realise that they're fucked without Jello and are now trying to smooth it all over. Fucking hypocritical American punk rock charalatans.

I would never go and see the Kennedys without Jello. I'd love for them to reform, but it would be for all the wrong reasons, and everything they did and everything they said would be hollow and suspect.

Well said that 21 year old
Maybe see you tommorow night at Whistleb.

But I know where I'll defo be next Saturday "Broken and Skint in Bo'ness"

For the record the reason I wanted to go see them last year was for
sentimental reasons but it wouldn't have been the same so they
did me a favour by cancelling.

Although it can't take away the fact that they're still one of my fave bands.

Ali.

Oh yeah man, I love them too.

That's why it pisses me off so badly.

I'm also looking forward to being `Broken + Skint` in Bo`ness. It'll make a pleasant change from being Broken + Skint in Stirling!

Maybe see ya tonight!

Well i saw them twice on the last tour (with Brandon Cruz) and they were fuckin' awesome both times. Can't make a comparison to the original lineup cause i never managed to see them, but i'd go see the "new DK's" again tomorrow if they came back.

And check out:

http://www.deadkennedysnews.com/

for the other side of the story regarding the court cases, including court transcripts which make a total nonsense out of most of what Jello has claimed.

Biafra said all the 'reunion' shit was, well, shit, and not ever going to happen.

Oh also, the reformed DKs dedicated a song to soldiers in Iraq, and said that they supported their actions. Think Jello thought the same?
