Politics And Music.
Should the two continued to be mixed or should they be kept apart?
In this day of age i can see why lots of bands are helping to spread the message. however I feel kinda bored and depressed after listening to some bands,i know the worlds fucked up.The Rock Against Bush comp is amazing..but i do feel kinda odd after hearing it,cause there.s not much i can do about it...being British. People say it's about time bands started doing things for the world but is that the whole point in music?isn't just having it about having fun and making music that you want about whatever you want...but i feel some bands are only putting out a political message because it's the 'in' thing to do. I am in no way bad mouthing the subject...i love rage against the machine,anti-flag,nofx(when they do political stuff),against me,randy, pipedown, strike anywhere, pennywise, bad religion etc. Last edited by RussellOrGoose : 3rd June 2004 at 03:15 PM. |

I don't think they should be seperated, however i do think brittish people should quit writing songs about george bush. Wake the fuck up! we live in a place called britain! We have the bnp, the ukip, racism, broken promises by a leader, etc.... to sing/get pissed off about. Why is it always the war? Now i aint saying the war doesnt affect us, it is a very serious matter. However when people sing songs about George Bush rather than Tony Blair it gets on my nerves. If these people are all so anti-american then why do they try so hard to be one? And on the subject, why do so many people feel the need to wear those stupid not my president tshirts? You're goddamned right he isnt your president, THIS ISN'T AMERICA!!!!

i agree that bands should do more to concentrate on the problems in their own country but theres nothing wrong with singing songs bout problems elsewhere in the world. as for those t-shirts, i agree.

I don't think the two should be seperated. Punk music in particular started out due to the social and political unrest in Britain in the '70s and a lot of the lyrics from that time reflect that. If the two were seperate we would have missed out on some quality songs.Thats the thing about music, no rules, no boundaries, write about what you like.
A lot of bands do try and make a difference and donate to a lot of good causes, try to make people more aware. But if you're just doing it for a laugh, that is cool as well! |

I personally don't like them mixed. I don't mind songs being political if they're good songs. But I don't listen to or write music for politicals reasons.
Music for me is about having a laugh and letting my ears enjoy themselves. I don't care about politics. |

aye, because i was an un-educated moron. After looking into it i realised there was an awful lot more than fat mike and michael moore versus george bush.

Politics and music are separate things, politicians and musicians are also different, as is the politics forum and the general forum lol. But i think that people can draw their inspiration from politics and write great songs but bands descriminating against and judging eachother because of their politics is wrong

i dont really listen to lyrics, i pay more attention to the riffs, n beats... i do however think that music is an art, and like all art, it is a way for people to express their thoughts, and feelings... if u happen to b a very political person, then great, sing ur heart out about it...chances r i wont notice though
