personally, if i was offered to become part of a major label i would. i mean, you make a lot of money and its a good pastime, why not turn it into a career.

Yeah, but some people think Slipknot are underground, so someone saying that they've heard underground music doesn't really mean much to me.

Y'see most mainstream music doesn't become popular because it's good. It becomes popular because it's marketed at idiots, and since most people are idiots, they'll buy it. I think the popularity of papers like The Sun proves this point perfectly. Well OK, maybe idiots is too strong a term, as you can be very intelligent, but have very unintelligent taste in music. Some people just aren't musically inclined, and see music as something to stick on in the background.

If the best music is mainstream, then why are most mainstream songs vacuous love songs, that are written purely for commercial gain? Do you think the artists writing these songs really get dumped, or fall in love that often?

If mainstream music is better, then why is it that many bands rise in popularity, occurs at exactly the same time that they make their lyrics less intelligent, and their music more basic, to be more easily swallowed by the mass audience?

Why are talentless boybands/girlbands, that can't write music or play any instruments at the top of the charts, when people who can write music very well are often unheard of?

As for the major label thing. If I was a musician, and could join a major label without having to change my musical style to fit them, then I don't see any problem with it. There's nothing wrong with making money from your music.

If someone offered you 1 billion pounds to shoot your mother in the head, would you do it? (and no, your answer doesn't count if you hate your mother)

I think most people would say no to that.

If someone offered you 1 billion pounds, but the catch was that you'd be completely deaf for the rest of your life, would you do it?

Well that's how strongly some people feel about music. (perhaps not that strong but you get my drift) There are some things in life that are just more important than money.

As long as the music stays yours then that would be fine.

I really don't think he's worth the 10mins it must've taken to type all that, man.

Just thought I'd point out that not all mainstream bands are on majors.

Edit: Actually, thinking about that, it depends what you call mainstream.

Ever heard of a 'lowest common denominator' Wondah Vocal?

I read good quality magazines and books. I also look at porn and read FHM. There are plenty of people however who look at porn and read FHM but dont at any good quality publications, I hope this analogy helps....
