bloody westport, yay the doghouse

i've recently been speaking to sarah at the doghouse lots about putting on gigs and she's really up for it. she also seems to have the right idea and attitude, something dundee's been needing for a while now. i'm going to be doing a lot more gigs with the doghouse now because it definately seems like the right people to deal with right now.

my story isn't really related to the doghouse but rather the westy. i had a gig booked with them (captain everything on the 25th of may) but it's since been moved to laings because liam (chunderbunny) is doing an all dayer that day and wanted to put on captain everything as the headliners. so i went into the westie today to cancel the gig and it wasn't even on the fucking books!

they were all "oh maybe the person who booked it just wrote it down on a piece of paper and lost it or something" i watched the guy write it in the fucking book!

it's not like i care gig-wise although i would if i was confirming rather than cancelling but it's not the first time they've done that to someone or even just me. they used to blame not paying your deposit then the claymore gig got cancelled after they had payed the deposit and had posters up.

i quite like the westie as a venue and stu's great but it sucks that this is becoming a more regular thing with them.

anyway in conclusion i'd just like to say "bloody westport, yay the doghouse!" who wants to join me in my "bloody westport, yay the doghouse!" movement?

I was there when you came into cancel, seems rather shoddy the way they go about some matters, I think if you are going to book gigs with the Westport (probably unlikely?) in future its best to talk to Andy the manager, he seems to have control/last say on these matters. Probably best you found out now that the gig wasnt written down, and not two months later if the event was still going ahead, you would have certainly be pee'ed off, trust me. Saying that I still think the westie is a great venue and as said, Stu is a great sound guy. Even though I had beef with them back last month, I'll still be using them in the time being, with caution though. The Doghouse still has teething problems at the moment, even thought Sarah can be helpful. Am still rather suspect how they cancelled the gig on Saturday with no reason, not really professional, plus me and Ewan got told to "come back next week" when we went in to arrange some dates, thats not really helpful to us.. but lets hope in future matters get fixed and the Doghouse can flourish

sarah's still unsure about if she's getting to keep her lease, she has until the end of april definately and it's quite likely that she'll have it after then but she doesn't want to speak to soon and book gigs when she can't be sure. that's probably why she said come back soon because she keeps expecting her bosses to tell her by the end of the week but they never do.

UGS has had 3 gigs double booked by the Westie, all had to get cancelled. We had a fundraiser also which was double booked and had to get rearranged. Always come second, i wonder why.

i'll do you a fundraiser in the doghouse if you want. i could do it at the end of april but it's not long to advertise. sarah is looking for more gigs in april so if you fancy it i could see what i can do.

i personally wont be putting on gigs at the Westie for the forseeable future, mainly due to unreliability issues. It seems as though if you are not an established promoter in the city, they reserve the right to cancel your gigs whenever they feel like it and book in stag nights instead.

the westie does have the advantage of being +14 though, as opposed to +18 which seems to hold back a large proportion of the potential audience? no?

i don't like +18 venues....

as far as i'm aware the westie isn't +14's and andy really doesn't like under 18's being there. one day they're going to turn around and throw everyone out, i heard they were going to start doing that a lot more. maybe they liked the money from the under age drinking too much!

from xdavidx:

not only did the Westie let in and serve about 50 blatant underagers upstairs last Friday, when I went downstairs pre-gig, the place was hoaching over with children. and I mean really, really obvious children, boys in tracksuits, girls in pastel colours and training bras. if they're taking a firm stance on underagers in shows, they're obviously counterbalancing it with a loose stance on underagers in the actual pub.

and the reason the westie want it more over 18 is coz they are money hungry....but i would be too if in same shoes

me liam n damo have been looking at the possibility of the doghouse for more 1 dayer style events - the upstairs was open for lemuria on friday and by all accounts is looking alright so the theory we have is to run a Warped Tour style thing where we will have upstairs and downstairs and as soon as a band finishes at one another starts at the other - that way u can watch bands all night with out sets overlapping or being delayed by changing equipment and every band will have at least half an hour to set up

i'm also fairly sure that the westie isn't a function suite. in the sense that if you charge admission legally it's not a function, it's a concert. therefore there is nothing connecting parties at the westie with gigs
