Live 8
This has been much rumored over the last few weeks and during, what was described as a very large, press conference this afternoon, Bob Geldof confirmed that Live Aid 2, which is to be known as Live 8, is definately going to take place.
There will be simultanious concerts taking place in London, Berlin, Paris, Rome, and Philidelphia. Bob Geldof pointed out that this is not in aid of fundraising, which Live Aid back in 1985 was for, but to promote the Make Poverty History Campaign which is designed to put pressure on Governments to do something about world poverty. The concerts are taking place to conincide with the G8 summit which will be taking place at Gleneagles a week later, hence the name Live 8. Due to the reason of the concert not being to raise funds the tickets are free, although the proposed method to get tickets is through some form of lottery system through your phone, with texts costing in the region of £1.50 each. A list of confirmed acts, for all 5 venues, can be found on the radio 1 website here, along with some further information. A-HA are going to be making an appearance at the Berlin concert to perform and there have also been rumors flying about that the Spice Girls may be regrouping to make an appearance at the London concert. BBC radio 1 will be broadcasting the concert from Hyde park and on the Telly, Jonathan Ross and Graham Norton will also be reporting live from different sides of the Atlantic, with Jonathan in the UK and Graham in the USA. There will also be big screens placed around the UK to enable those who don't get to the concert and who don't want to sit in the house and watch it. |

Later on on Radio 1 today, Mel C was on the telephone and she was asked about Live 8. Her reply was that she had not formally been approached yet but from what she was saying it sounded like she had been in contact with the some of the others and they were quite keen to do it. |

hold on a sec, they don't want to raise money but:
"The text number will be announced at 8am on Monday 6 June 2005 via all UK Radio Stations and BBC Television. No ticket entries will be accepted before that time. The text line will remain open for 7 days, and 75,000 pairs of tickets will be randomly chosen by computer. There are no limits to the amount of times you can text. Each text costs £1.50 plus your usual network text charge." That can't be right. |

£112500 will easily cover their expenses! if they wanted to make money to cover expenses then they shoulda charged for tickets, it wouldn't have put anyone off going and it wouldn't have looked silly putting the equivelent of a stealth tax on the txt messages.
and anyway, i'm pretty sure they are getting all the venues for free. |
