Brian Jonestown Massacre
Ok i have to say iam fairly new to this band's music and it was the documentary "Dig" that really turned me on to them.I had only really read a couple of interviews with the singer Anton in NME and he came across as a pretty fucked up though interesting person.
I downloaded a few of their albums including Thank God For Mental Illness and iam hooked on em,they arent to everyones taste but iam well getting into them. Has anyone seen the documentary or even a fan of the band? I would recommend everyone watch Dig even if you like the band or not. |

I have an album of theirs called 'Take It From The Man!'
It's a pretty good Rolling Stones imitation, but not necessarily something I'd dig (oh god) out too often. I haven't seen the documentary, but from what I've been told, Anton Newcombe is a complete prick. Is that the case? |

I've downloaded a few of their albums off their website, not listened to them all yet. What i have listened to is pleasant enough jangly-pop, nothing amazing. Not shit either.
Would like to see the film, but to be honest i'd imagine all involved are insufferable pricks. |

Yes he comes across as an arrogant prick though he claims the footage is badly edited and only shows him when he's loaded. Its worth a watch to see how one man's ego can tear a talented band apart. At one stage he pretty much sack's his whole band(one of them one Peter Hayes who went on to form Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) The tambourine player Joel is a strange but funny guy to watch. Theres a scene where Anton challenges some guy in the crowd to a fight for shouting at him then he kicks the boy right in the head and gets arrested. Anton aint right but you can tell he has a lot of talent. The film is edited by Corey from Dandy Warhols who feature in it a fair bit. |

I really like The Brian Jonestown Massacre but a lot of their stuff sounds a bit samey, probably 'cos they're so prolific. I think Anton comes across way better than the arsehole from The Dandy Warhols in Dig.
