The Rise – Official Statement The Rise have been officially informed that the planned tour date in Mexico City agreed with the Global Battle Of The Bands (GBOB Ltd.) as a prize will now no longer take place. GBOB Ltd. has confirmed that due to a withdrawal of sponsorship in Mexico the trip had to be cancelled for all bands. Our management is currently in London trying to resolve this issue to ensure the best outcome for The Rise. The Rise cannot hide their disappointment at the cancellation of this trip and offer out sincere apologies to all who have encouraged us in this endeavour.< /div> GBOB Ltd. is now looking to compensate both bands for this cancellation by arranging support appearances on Kopek’s World tour. The Rise will now concentrate on completing their second E.P. and are currently in negotiations for a month long UK tour in the autumn. The Rise will continue to work hard at writing and playing the music they lov e and hope you continue to support us. If you require further information please feel free to contact: Matt Walker – International Director GBOB Ltd. matt@gbob.com Paul Grieve – Manager , The Rise management@wearetherise.co.uk Please feel free to leave comments here on our forum http://wearetherise.proboards50.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1143 540395 or here on our MYSPACE page www.myspace.com/wearetherise www.wearetherise.co.uk |

That's bad news. Did they give you a reason as to why the sponsors had withdrawn? I hope the consolation touring dates make up for this.

No concrete reason as of yet. This wasn't announced as a prize until the night before the gig. The Mexican backers said they would pay for the 2nd and 3rd bands to play as well. After weeks of hassling them, getting visa's sorted, equipment insurance the whole sha-bang, the owner of GBOB turns around and says funding has been pulled.!!! Absolute downer but hey what doesn't break us makes us stronger.

I'm sure they'll come back fighting with something else. When I was bairn and I used to go to the beach there were two types of kids. The ones that were happy building there own sandcastles and the kids that were more happy kicking down other peoples!!!!! |

but when i checked their website i found a list of all the gigs they've played and it numbered 17 (which includes battle of the bands etc.)? That doesn't really constitute the hardest of work to me...

Please do tell me how you got to this figure? Is that the total number of fingers and toes you have? We have had 22 performances from one end of the UK to the other and also recorded a couple of songs towards our next EP in the space of 25 weeks. We all have full time jobs and other commitments and also we find the time to rehearse 3 times a week cause we've fuck all else to do. Please do count for yourself September 2005 - December 2005 January 2006 - until now If you need any more fingers use the fishy smelling ones....no not your mums....the ones from the freezer!!!! New EP 'What Goes Around Comes Around' Due for release May 2006 www.wearetherise.co.uk www.mysapce.com/wearetherise |

i count 21 but thats not the issue. I am fully supportive of bands doing what bands do, but you're pretty arrogant and i didnt like the whole smug 'look at us, were going to mexico' shit (not because im jealous, before you say, but because I dont approve of bands gloating about what they havent done yet when they should just be getting on with it), and then somehow you managed to turn the fact that youre NOT going to mexico into some sort of fancy press release.
"Hey there, were not playing a gig but check out our new songs!" I like the 'mum' comments aswell, excellent stuff! |
