yes but i'm not on about if you supported soem act..your local you shouldnt expect cash all the time, but venues say you can support BLAH BLAH BLAH ..but we wont pay you, but you think this is good deal cause your supporting a big act. this way promoter/bar makes alot of money.

Fair enough. But I think it's a bit shitty to use kids in that way. I mean, local bands are not put on because they are good or because they suit the bill, they are put on because of how many people will come along to watch them. Segaboy, Channel 9 and This Time Tommorow are prime examples of this. Not saying that they aren't good or anything but they were never paid and they brought in the majority of the crowd at every gig.

you'd be surprised dude, every second gig i do sound for promoters don't know when people are arriving, don't know who's bringing what, can't organise set times etc.

there has been quite a few ive played it which have had organisation problems...but i wont go into that!

You have to remeber that bands have the power to say NO.

Most bands just want to play gigs and get there music heard,I admit I think not paying bands is unfair and wrong,but bands will look at this as an oppertunity to play in front of alot of people sell a couple od CDs.

But not paying bands ANYTHING is wrong(charity excluded).Never played a Beat generator gig so this is not directed at them.

yeah, bands can say no, but there is bugger all opportunity to gig in Arbroath if you do.

It's an opportunity to play with a bigger band and to play to more people yeah, but surely you can only have that view the first couple of times you play for nothing when the promoter is clearly raking it in at the door? It's not like we're asking for diamonds or anything unreasonable, it would be nice to get money for a taxi home with your stuff since you usually have to bring your own amps etc (not unreasonable at all) or something like that.

then these bands get egos..well we supported blah blah blah..i'm like yes but reason is your local the promoter knows your friends will go, where as REAL promoters will put hard work in to pack there gigs.

i think its fair enough getting paid nothing if you get the chance to play with a touring band.

even if you get a support slot with a HUGE touring band the most you'll probably see is 50 quid.

local bands should get nothing at these sorts of gigs. Or if the promoter does well a little bit of petrol money. Don't get arsey if you play with a touring band and you don't get paid, touring bands need food, petrol, place to stay.......... that costs, it costs nothing to jam your gear in a car and nip down the road to the westie or the doghouse.
