Just a couple of early reviews so far for the album guys
Soundshok - "The Bringers Of Bloodshed" 2008 Rising Records Scottish thrash metallers will fuck you up! For those thrash fans that like to be deafened, I strongly suggest Soundshok, the band's name itself gives you a brief idea of what you're in for. Accompanied by a powerful growl, fast drumming and thrashy and scuzzy guitar riffs, the Arbroath foursome's 9-track album will satisfy any crossover fan. The sound quality is very rough and raw and some of the songs start to sound pretty similar, but nevertheless each song is a relentless and intense attack. With the band recently supporting the likes of Gama Bomb and Warbringer, these Scots are making quite an impression. Soundshok are here to make you bleed. 3/5 Big Cheese - Samantha Bruce We also have an incoming band feature in this Months new Big cheese as well as a track from the album on the covermount cd Soundshok - "The Bringers Of Bloodshed" 2008 Rising Records The origins of Soundshok can be traced back to 2001 when vocalist Andy Thain (vocals), guitarist Scott Holmes, bassist Marc Thain and drummer Stuart Lamont decided that ,after years of listening to their metal, it was time to start making music for themselves. As with many before, these four youngsters wanted to be actively making music like their heroes and with their debut album "The Bringers Of Bloodshed" they have turned that vision into a reality. Hailing from Arbroath, a town not noted as a hot bed of musical talent Soundshok are out to prove that small-town mediocrity is not something on their agenda. Citing influences as varied as Hatebreed, Chimaira, Sepultura, Lamb Of God, Full Blown Chaos and Pantera amongst many others The Bringers Of Bloodshed was never going to be "easy listening" and if that's your cup of tea you may as well stop reading now. Over the course of nine songs the lads show, very effectively, that they know the ingredients that go together to make intense, dark and aggressive metal. The fast double pedal drumming courtesy of Lamont deserves special mention as he picks out phrases within the songs to accent musical moments in a refreshing way, it's not all heads down and rush for the finishing line though. Holmes' riffing is tight and focused and he shows, as a guitarist, he has plenty of energy and stamina to stay the course and he appears to have a nice partnership with Marc Thain, as they never get in each other's way. Leading the songs is the vocals of Andy Thain who does his best to sound like a tortured and angst-ridden soul as he growls his way amongst the musical oblivion that surrounds him. The opening track "The Bringers Of Bloodshed" sets out the bands musical stall and forms the blueprint for the rest of the album. As an opening number it is so good that it has the unfortunate effect of making the rest of the album sound like it is chasing its own tail. Luckily the band just about manage to keep up the high standard and with tracks like "Isolation Is Power" and "As It Burns" they have material which will have the mosh pits of the UK and beyond spiralling into bloody chaos and reckless abandon. One has to commend Soundshok for putting together an album that sounds both confident and assured, especially when you consider this is a debut release. Not all the tracks work but those tracks that do show a young band who have serious potential to make inroads into a very competitive genre. I'm sure they will have learnt a lot during this first recording which should mean that when it comes to that difficult second album hopefully all of the pieces will fall neatly into place. For the moment The Bringers Of Bloodshed shows that determination, desire and self-motivation are qualities that Soundshok have in abundance and for anyone who likes their metal to be hard and in your face this release deserves your attention. 7/10 Al Hey - Hard Rock House We also Have a track from the album on this months terrorizer |
