Ammendment of the Union Jack

... to include black to represent the ethnic minorities that make up part of the UK population. Is this a good idea? or should the flag remain the way it is?

i didnt realise that the Union Jack was for just whites, i thought it was a representation of the British Isles. Therefore, everyone is included.

i think thats probably one of the strongest arguments against changing the flag, in that it doesnt represent skin colour but the people that actually live there, hence making skin colour irrelevant when it comes to the flag, and i think that is a good thing. There must be another way to acknowledge the countries diverse population.

i think the fact that its an amalgamation of 3 different flags speaks enough about the diversity and fact that britain is full of different ethnicitites..... my argument.. is why is there no welsh representaion on the flag?

I don't really mind immigrants comming to this country, i mean when they come here they no what to expect i.e culture way of life etc but it's things such as changing the flag that annoy me it's like there trying to change the country to suit there lifestyles and changing the flag is a bit to far, i mean what would be next famouse african presidents on the currency ???

I'm sure ethnic minorities in this country wouldn't care less the if they changed the flag; it's the brain child of a bunch of goody goody politicians trying to be "for the people" but it just comes off as patronising.

It would be good if it made people more tolerant of other cultures but I think it would probably have the opposite effect (The Daily Mail would have a field day "How dare they change our flag" and such like)

Quite a contencious issue!

Its a pity that the Union flag has been adopted by the less savory elements of our society. I think an ammendment to the flag would be a better option that redesigning it all togethor. However the Union flag itself represents an economic union rather than that of cultures or people. I think it may be wiser to commit it to history and allow the people of Scotland, NI , Wales and England to fly there own flags just as they celebrate their own individuality.

This is a boring story, I went out to visit a friend who lives in barbados a year or so ago and he came home one evening and was talking about speaking to this guy who was working for them, during the conversation his brother in law said "is this guy black or white" and my mate had no idea, he couldnt remember if this dude was black or white, now thats hard to believe but true.
Who gives a flying monkeys fuck what coulour a persons skin is..?
Who cares what colour the fucking union jack is...?

When I meet someone I dont see the colour of their skin, I see the person underneath, black white yellow green, makes no odds to me.

no it shouldn't change.
if you go to live in a country it should be because you like what it is and want to be part of it not to go and change it to your own culture. if your own culture and country is so bloody wonderful stay there. you go to another country you respect it's ways and learn the language and try to fit in.
the uk seems too eager to pander to political correctness sometimes (probably through some form of guilt about invading and dominating a large part of the globe) and ethnic minorities from other countries are all to eager to exploit it.
why are people so eager to get to britain when countries like france and germany will take them? because we'll give them houses and money and not expect them to get a job and contribute.
i'm all for equal rights and against racism etc but it's getting to the point of positive discrimination which is ridiculous. i work for the government and there is a scheme to help people from ethnic minorities get into management positions by providing funding for courses etc. i can not get this extra help because i am white, however my friend who is the same age, has better educational qualifications and was born and raised in scotland as were his parents, grandparents and great grand parents can be given the extra help as he is of indian decent. our work does not class this as positive discrimination (which is illegal) but positive action to address the balance of ethnic minorities in management.
my argument is that by their very definition there will be fewer ethnic minorities in any job role because they are minorities (apart from certain areas of the uk where ethnic minorities now make up the majority for the first time ever((are they to be classed as an ethnic majority, how does it work now? are we an ethnic majority at the moment? these sort of questions screwed our equal opportunities trainer!)).
anyway i'm going off topic. keep the union jack the way it is as you can't just add black as you'd be offending brown, yellow and pink people and if the colour of the flag is meant to represent the colour of the inhabitants who the fuck are the red and blue folk?
