Deforestation in the Amazon
just read an article that suggests that the rate of deforestation in the Amazon rain forest INCREASED by 40% last year, when it was meant to decrease due to all the pledges made by various governments and companies.
I'm a bit worried about this, and am sure most of you are too, since the amazon is considered the 'lungs of the world' due to its ability to produce vast amounts of oxygen, vital for the planet. Its bigger than the whole of Western Europe. Opinions?

Green issues seem to have been swept under the caret in recent years!!!
Deforestation has so many negative effects not only on a worldwide level but also locally as many species of animal and plant life are destroyed. Also the introduction of so many immigrant workers to these areas in South America brings with it infection and disease to the forest's human inhabitants!!! |

I think it's awful
Quite possibly one of the most naturally beautiful places on earth and they're destroying it - surely we have enough paper already? The big corporate motherfuckers at the top of the food chain don't give two shits unfortunately; all they're worried about is getting their money's worth out of chopping down millions of trees. |

hey folks, are you worried about the destruction of the rainforests? worried enough to do something however small?
really? then boycott mcdonalds, burger king etc as these companies account for huge amounts of the amazon being turned into grazing land for cattle . then again you probably aren't THAT bothered are you? ![]() |

same as the bastarding cfcs, we've known about what's happening the ozone layer for decades, but still ol' bush refuses to sign the agreement to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions. |
