did anyone see this programme on BBC2 today? it was a great insight into the life of the british military during the Iraqi war just passed. Some of it was pretty daunting and just imaging myself in some of those situations shown on the programme were frightening.
Incidently, i went to Camperdown Park in Dundee today where some of the Scottish elements of the British Army incl. the Black Watch were doing a military display. I had a fascinating convo with one soldier who explained the concept behind fly-by-wire shoulder mounted rocket launchers. Did anyone remember seeing the coverage of the war when a soldier fired a rocket from a launcher and it dropped a couple of feet before its fins popped out and it flew toward a building, which it hit, and then you heard the American soldiers cheering? it was one of those. Well cool. And then i remembered that all the hardware on display was designed to kill people. Brings you back down to earth.

you only read what you want to see. I wasnt talking about how cool it was blowing up a building, i was saying how cool it was to see the rockets mechanics. and then if you read my post further... "And then i remembered that all the hardware on display was designed to kill people. Brings you back down to earth." you'd see that i dont think its cool to kill people. Read first before making your judgment. and if i got you the wrong way, then my appologies. Emotions are hard to convey on a discussion forum.

I was one of the most anti war people here and I would have done the same as KJ. I think the reason is we both do computing so would be fascinated by the embedded programming that controls these high tech weaponry. The guided missiles etc are all controlled by computer programs not some guy holding a joystick and being geeks its cool to find out how this works
