I dont think theres anything wrong with the "dundee scene" anyway how you meant to revive it? you cant force people to go to gigs (if infact your talking about lack of people)
What do you think is wrong with the "dundee scene"? |

there is a lot of apathy in dundee towards local bands, but in terms of quality and quantity, i think Dundee is doing pretty well. As for the crowds, i think it's a lot to expect of people to go crazy the first time you've heard a band as you're really just trying to work out if you like them or not.

There is nothing wrong with the dundee scene at all. There are some shit hot bands in dundee and people like to go and enjoy them, so what if they don't mosh all the time, they still appreciate the music. Plus its all down to how hard u work at promoting the gig, work your ass off, get a crowd, improve the atmosphere, folk will mosh - simple as!

Dundee has a lot of good bands in it from my experience of the place- the way to revive the scene is to make sure all the bands head along to other bands gigs and make their mates go as well- that way you can build momentum i think

Its not about getting all other bands and their mates there, u need to get people who actually dig your music and are there to appreciate it, not to do their mates a favour.
THe only way to do that is to promote yourselves to fuck, get cd's out for free and flyer everywhere. |

I think the scene needs to be given some clout, my heyday was years ago when the Westie/Doghouse scene took thousands of pounds from me and gave me countless nights of crammed-in-like-a-sardine happyness, gigs are no fun when you can actually move about.
The Nu-Westie (chuckle...) has tonnes of potential, I think promoters should target it, MTS have a gig there this coming wednesday but noone has anything thursday, friday and saturday past... why is this? Get yer fingers oot. Rant over. |

Yeah definately a good point. I liked going to gigs in the old westie cos it was pretty small which was just about the right size to make the place look busy even if if there were only 40-50 people there. The Cotton Club is too big for the amount of people who actually go to gigs which makes the place look deserted, but it is still the best place to play cos the sound system is so fuckin' good and also has a decent sized stage.
I don't think we need a revival as such. The Bands are great, The people are great and the venues are great. It is just that the scene is pretty small in Dundee and i think if anything we should all be working towards making it bigger. The new westie maybe the turning point...who knows. |

I'll say the same thing I say every time this comes up wether here or kerosene board.
Organise gigs together. Nothing pisses me off more than loads of bands playing on the same night at different venues. yeah great idea, bugger all gigs all week then 4 on a Friday night or whatever. means you have to choose which bands to see and which to miss and also means smaller crowds at each venue. |

I don't think the dundee scene is great, mind you it's better than the Perth scene which is absolute baws, unless your a "punk" band. I think that some of the venues in Dundee are execllent but as John said like the Cotton Club is too big even though the sound quality is top notch.
The smaller the better, thats what i say! More intamit and Hardcore . Thats why i like playing at Drouthies in Dundee and Dr Drakes in Aberdeen, and the Cheeky Monkey in Perth. Cuase theres no way for the audience to not hear you, unless they walk out of course, it's right up in there faces, the way music should be. |
