Dundee Punk collective?
this post is for all the promoters of punk gigs, anyone at all who has or would like to put on gigs in Dundee.
Basicaly this is an Idea which myself and Paul from Engage have been talking about lately where all the promoters of punk in all its varietys get together to promote gigs as a single collective in Dundee. With all of us working together to promote gigs in Dundee (and even surrounding areas such as kirrie or arbroath?) we could create a much stronger scene. obvious benefits could be spread costs of promotions, and in the event of a bad turnout at gigs losses. less work for one person = less stress more relaxed time bigger bands - with several people involved we could take on bigger bands at less risk of losing lots of cash if it all goes tits up avoid gig clashs - coz that sucks help get more local bands onto more touring band gigs rather than the same bands every time Having a collective would mean much more organisation so we could hold fundraising gigs to allow for getting money to bring bands to Dundee or Bulk purchase of Free Zines such as Reasons To Believe and Fracture so that more people can get copies. We could all also operate under one name so when people see the posters/flyers they would recognise the name and come along even if they hadnt heard the bands etc I think its a great idea and would realy like to see it happen all the punks, emo kids, ska folks etc coming together and forming a collective but it'll only work if everyone gets involved so please let me know what you think Roddy |

sounds like a great idea to me. theres enough bands, venues and fans in dundee to make it work and enough diversity for there to be something for everyone.
itd be really good for the quality of music too if more bands had the chance to play with more professional touring bands everyone deserves a stage and a crowd to say their piece. rebecca (punkiconess) was talking about making a fanzine, itd be good if more people did this too, and if more bands clubbed together and made compilation tapes of their demos. surely everyone is making and promoting music because they love it, so why try to better each other? too often there are 2 or more gigs with similair bands on the same night, thats shit for everyone. |

I think its a great idea, it would be the first step towards a better scene here and definately attract more touring bands etc. I think it would have to be thought out well though and the people involved would all have to be totally committed to it. It would really improve things like advertising etc as there could be more people solely dedicated to different areas.
I would be interested in being involved at some level, definately ![]() |

Um, yeah, I'll help in whatever way poss. I can do promotion and stuff. Could maybe even pushed to do flyer design and whatnot.
I'm thinking a website, or mailing list, or IRC, or whatever might be useful... Just to get some communication going... Maybe just a post of MSN addies here (I'm chunderbunny2003@hotmail.com)... |

i reckon a good idea would be take a list of names of who wants to be involved then if kj would be kind enough we could have our own forum,
then have a group of folk in charge of flyers, a couple for booking gigs, someone with good persuasive skills to get touring bands to come here, etc. this is one of the first serious "lets do something to make the scene better" threads weve had, we should stick to this. all we really have to do is avoid having two gigs on the same night and make sure everyone involved does their best to let everyone else know about whos all going to be playing and what they sound like. i'd be up for helping with out with flyers and zines. i also could also make compilation cds and tapes to hand out in the street and at gigs. im getthekeysandgo@hotmail.com for anyone who wants to talk about this. roddy already has a website, www.problemrecords.tk, he is half way there anyway, there should be no heirarchy but roddy knows his stuff and its a good lead to follow Last edited by Tommy Sports : 7th July 2003 at 02:51 PM. |
