Possibility of garage for hire
I may have the oppurtunity to hire out a garage a the end of my garden, which I'm considering doing to allow me somewhere to play my drums. Problem with this is, I can't really afford to do this
![]() What I'm considering doing is hiring the garage, putting my kit in there, and hiring it out on a per hour basis for bands. The kit would be available for bands to play on, to save the drummer having to bring theirs. Any profits to go back into the garage to make it a better place to practise (and on inevitable kit maintenance). Ok, now for some details: Location: Dundee, Roseangle, just off Perth Road, very near Droughties (kinda behind). Kit: Sabian AAX Crash (14" I think) Sabian AAX Ride Sabian AAX HiHat's Pearl Export toms x3 (11", 12", 13") Pearl Export floor tom Pearl Export bass drum Pearl Double Bass pedal Pair of bongo's ![]() Over the next few weeks I'm adding another, larger crash (the current one sounds a touch weedy). Considering adding a steeldrum at some point. What I'm wanting to know is: Who would actually use a place like this? How often would you use it? How much would people be prepared to pay for a place like this? Does anyone need me to provide any more info? Last edited by Chunderbunny : 9th July 2003 at 11:02 PM. |

Hmmm sounds quite cool, if you hired it out cheap enough it would be quite cool for bands to hire it for long periods of time. instead of the usual 2 hours or whatever, that way they could leave amps and stuff there. Also you should just use the basics of the kit though and not all the cymbals and stuff, im sure drummers would take their own cybamls etc? no point in you risking anything being broken. just a suggetion.

Um, the garage I'm currently looking at is typical house garage sized, just done a rough estimate, about 3mx6m. I'm looking at possibly getting another garage, either next to it, or possibly a big one about twice the size somewhere else, if there was enough demand...... The garage would be available weekday evenings (after about 8 to start with), and weekends... Hours would change with my circumstances, come september, I'll probably be able to open it from about 4... What other details would you like ms gary? And one of the ideas of this post is to see what kinda price people would pay per hour for a setup like this, so give me suggestions on what you think would be a 'reasonable price' re: what tallicafreak was saying about extended visits, yeah thats a damn good idea. I'd probably do some kinds of deal on people who book multiple hours and whatnot. And about the cymbals, yeah, I was thinking about that. I was thinking I may hire these out seperately, allowing drummers with cymbals to bring there own (and get cheaper playing time), or allow drummers without cymbals to hire them. Thanks for the suggestions ![]() |

The plan was to ask what bands would like most in the garage, and buy the most popular things with any profits. Over time, the place has the potential to be a really sound rehearsal place |

Yeah man, sounds like a good idea
Just a suggestion but to start out with a bass amp too, maybe just a small one. Not many bands i know own one. And guitarists can bring their own amps and that I would be up for paying 3-5 quid an hour really Discounted price if you book many hours? |

I have a figure of about £5 an hour running through my head at the moment. But to be honest, until I do some sums, I don't know |

The whole thing sounds pretty damn cool. I'm willing to donate a bass amp to the whole venture, its not great but it'd be a good start to the whole thing.
A PA would be pretty essential but I'm sure u could get one for a decent price. If u want any help with this then let me know, its something I've always wanted to get involved with and I helped set up a similar thing back home. Also Eiko would definately be interested in using it, especially if we could get long sessions in there. |
