History
Violent Response was formed in late 2005 by Chris Potter, Tom Mitchell and Graham Motion, in response to the growing fashioncore/Myspace "hardcore" scene that was developing and also to satisfy their combined love for hardcore. Gary Thom was quickly recruited to play bass after the first practice.
The aim of the band was to be offensive, and to try and recreate a similar sound to late 80's and 90's hardcore bands such as Youth of Today, Chain of Strength and Ten Yard Fight. However, influences were also taken from more modern hardcore bands such as Champion, I Defy and Count Me Out.
One or two gigs were played in the late Barcode before the first recording was made. It consisted of three tracks, Fuck You Ponce, Scene it All Before and Cut the Shit, Start the Pit. This recording was done in the last half an hour of the bands third practice, safe to say the recording was nearly inaudible. However, these three tracks lead to to some of the first gigs Violent Response played outside of Perth, such as the Homoconsumens and Nuclear Death Terror shows put on by What Lies Ahead.
Following this Violent Response recorded five tracks which became their half of the Violent Response / Offside split CD and tape Circle Pit in the Penalty Box. This lead to Violent Response playing many gigs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Perth with bands such as Bones Brigade, Bane, Offisde, The Fight Back, Bud Hoskins, Engage, Age of Kali, Raise the White Flag, Get Stuffed, Out of Hand, XDuckStabX, 21 Meadow Filthpact and Atomgeviter.
However, in the summer of 2006, founding member Graham Motion died and Violent Response disbanded after recording two new songs, Bring Me the Hair Extensions and Big Bank, Mad Scrap.
Currently
Tom Mitchel recently remastered and released the track Bring Me the Hair Extensions to the the general public after discussions to reform Violent Response. A reunion show was arranged for May, 2007, in Glasgow, however, the venue cancelled the show due to delayed refurubishments and a suitable venue was not found as a replacement.
A second reunion show was arranged for July, 2007, in Glasgow, however, the lead singer Chris Potter, broke his leg, and was unable to attend on the date.
Violent Response will have a reunion show in the near future as well as a new release of around 8 tracks.
