Kate - Bass
Rob - Guitar
Kieran - Drums
Band Info
Starting out in early 2005 with only the desire to create fast and heavy metal music, Kieran and Kate formed Vulsellum off the back of a previous failed band. Rob, who also plays in Dundee thrash band Self Made Man, quickly offered his services on guitar, hoping to express some of his heavier writing tendancies. Rick's gravelly pipes were found through the grapevine and completed the band.
Influences
Each member of the band shares common influences and also brings new ones to the rest. The main influences behind the music are bands such as Carcass and Decapitated but individually, there is quite a mix of bands. If Vulsellum were to have a collective stereo it would play (among others): Ministry, Hate Eternal, Nile, Pantera, Slayer, Godflesh, 1349, Revolting Cocks, Children of Bodom and Arch Enemy.
Releases
So far, Vulsellum have had no records out, as such. The first gig was recorded onto minidisc and is avaliable free to anyone who asks. A live recording was done in Seagate Studios and was put up for free download on the Vulsellum myspace page[1]. Both the live set and the live recording consisted of the same songs:
Carcass Of A Dove
Face
Paranoia
Hymn To The Void
Gig History
To date, Vulsellum have only had 3 gigs. The first gig was a baptism of fire. Playing with Edinburgh based Man of the Hour, along with Pigscum from Glasgow and local support in The Westport Bar, Dundee[2]; Vulsellum seemed to go down well with the mid-sized crowd. Second gig was at The Balcony Bar, Dundee with local acts Merkin, 3rd Born Sun and Brickshithouse. A large crowd turned up for a free night of metal and involved agree it was a succesful night.
The last gig Vulsellum played was also their biggest. Playing support alongside Hellbound to Retribute Records' Man Must Die and Anticulture act Slit (from Malta), Vulsellum failed to move anything but the crowds hands. Still, many a fan was won that night with both Man Must Die and Slit commending the band on their performance.
Following this gig, Guitarist Rob was approached by French metal webzine Metal Sickness [3]for an interview. This wll appear later in the month. If you can follow the French tongue, a review of the Slit gig was also put in Metal Sickness.
What's Next?
2007 will hopefully see the first ever Vulsellum studio recording. This will contain 4-6 of the best new and old songs. As well as recording Vulsellum hope to get much more gigging experience, both in their adopted hometown of Dundee and further afield.
